Bonus Roll Bug Fix

This situation sucks too, because killing a mythic boss locks out the boss and loot from a week as well. There’s no good way to go about this. I can’t go back IF they fix this, and kill Chimerus for a chance at the trinket. No matter what my bad RNG keeps me with 2 Champion trinkets for yet another week w/ zero way to improve.

Well to be fair - it’s a question of what exactly Blizzard should do to compensate affected players.

Not everyone who used voidcores got duplicates - some used the 2 voidcores on raid bosses instead of M+.

Technically speaking - they never got a “duplicate” item = it’s impossible for them to get one since a raid boss bonus roll costs 2 voidcores. So are these players excluded from compensation?

And because the “fix” is NOT retroactive (again it’s only working for new rolls post fix) - these players who spent that 1 loot roll on a raid boss have the potential to see a “duplicate” item next week. So what then? What’s the remedy here?

Next, moving to the M+ players - for players who did get 2 duplicate items - what’s the best course of action? Refund 1 voidcore? or 2? Technically only the 2nd item was a duplicate, the 1st item is still usable (and technically fine).

And what should be done with the loot that was generated in all those scenarios? Should they be removed from players inventory? What if players already DE’d/sold the duplicated item?

Moreover a flat reward out to everyone (even those not affected) with +1/+2 voidcores could also seem unfair to those that did choose to wait to spend their voidcores.

Either way, whatever Blizzard does - it’s going to make some players upset. Either it’s not enough or went too far for a mistake that’s wholly on Blizzard for not making sure the system was working properly before deployment.

i didn’t use my rolls yet but i fully expect 2 extras as compensation. wait, make it 3!

Its 2:19 central time.

They likely won’t say anything before 4pm PST. Before they leave the office for the day.

QA will never catch everything, but the volume and severity of the bugs in this patch are unacceptable by any software standard. This specific bug is also not just some small bug, this is a pretty significant issue. This patch might be the lowest quality release WoW has seen, so many things broke and so many new features just didn’t work at all. It’s clear that there is a lack of sufficient QA for the amount of code being shipped, and that’s also not new, this patch is just an egregious offender and the expected result when you ditch most of your QA and support staff.

The acknowledgement came too late for many players, and for bugs of this level I believe they need a proper announcement system in game or at least in the launcher highlighting the issue and that they are aware and working on it at the least. Ideally, rolls would have been disabled as soon as the issue was found(if technically feasible). All the late communication did was require them now to provide remedy for a much larger amount of players, when the scope of said remediation could have been significantly smaller.

Unrealistic though if you think about it.

First, you would have needed to verify the problem and that it was repeatable consistently. Could you imagine shutting down systems if there was a false positive report or it was some other system causing problems?

Second, unlike housing (which is a newer system) - the bonus loot system is likely tied into existing “older” systems such as raids and dungeons. To “shut it down” would probably have meant shutting down raids and dungeons - think of the backlash that would have had.

Oh sorry folks because of the problems with the bonus loot roll system - we’re not allowing any players to do ANY M+ or Raiding for at least a day or two while we deploy a fix.

I don’t think that would have gone over any better - in fact that probably would have been worse.

Sure faster official communication would have been better but what really was needed was better testing of this system before deployment.

We literally have a PTR - did no one at Blizzard think to deploy this system there first and see if it would work properly and consistently? What is even the point of the PTR if you aren’t going to test new systems on there first before rolling it out to retail servers?

Even if Blizzard devs were in a time crunch - They could have shortcut the progression time-gating and gave everyone on the PTR 20 voidcores to test.

THIS IS NOT FIXED. I have received the same SUNLANCE OF VIRYX TWICE in myth Skyreach. Wasted both of my cores for this week!

Agreed, bugs happen. To your point, this one was particularly egregious. One of the highlights (if not THE highlight) of this patch was loot-protected rolls. How could that possibly have slipped through testing?

Both since the hotfix was deployed? Or one roll before, and another after?

We need evidence whether video or screenshots that this issue is fixed or not fixed.

There was an update a couple hours ago.

We still have no idea what, if anything, changed.

one before, one after

That’s to be expected.

Anything rolled before the hotfix would not have removed the item from the loot table.

It’s nice to hear you’re seeking to remediate the situation for affected players. I got the same bonus roll twice from Algethar thinking the bad luck protection would help.

I mean they should refund any cores spent, because part of what people were buying was the removal of that item from the loot table and that didn’t happen, meaning rolls going forward still will have a chance to dupe any item gotten. So unless they can retroactively remove items from the loot table, that’s the fix, and that’s before getting into wasted time beta testing the biggest feature from the patch that should have been 100% solid for free.

so what were we supposed to do then? just not use that 2nd core this week?

According to the blue post of this thread, you were always going to get a duplicate potentially rolling again if you used cores prior to the fix. The compensation part of the post is what we’re waiting to get a 2nd post about.

The fix was just so any roll after the fix would now properly remove items from the loot table. It didn’t undo anything prior to the fix.

Multiple people are still reporting it is still broken after the fix. Dupes from 2 keys run after the fix.

Anybody who used one core before the fix is probably just not gonna bother until next week when the weekly cap increases, or gets reset or whatever because they wouldn’t be able to tell one way or the other if they were getting a new item that is being taken off the list, or if they’re actually getting a duplicate.
