okay and even the strongest lineman in the nfl would look silly at a pro level powerlifting meet

not sure what your point is here

not at all

it’s not the only metric, but for the NFL it’s one of the tests they give athletes to see whether or not investing tens of millions of dollars in them over several years is going to be a wise investment

(google nfl combine)

World class sprinters who have trained for years hurt themselves while running. Your assertion that he got hurt = “made of glass” is stupid.

But they would fail when lined up against the “true athletes” of soccer players or track runners.

Also. Only like 1/8th of the players in the NFL draft get “tens of millions of dollars” invested in them. And often the NFL combine had nothing to do with it. The order is largely set before the combine with the rare riser or person falling.

But plenty of NFL players get hurt in non contact drills. Especially during this time of the year.

Guess NFL players arent true athletes.

Incoming ; "lol cmon bro, you know what I meant, lol "

Messi runs a 40 yard dash in 4.7 seconds. There are plenty of players at all positions that run that or faster. Yes a 350lb nose tackle probably can’t effectively run around a soccer pitch for an entire match, but the skill position players definitely can.

The combine often has a significant impact on a player’s draft potential, this is an objective fact. I can provide the direct evidence if you want.

not having your body self destruct after running 40 yards is kind of a requirement to be a pro athlete…

You realize there are distances more than 40 yard dashes…right?

Except draft orders are largely set before the combine, and game tape is always more valuable. Teams that allow combine stars to drastically change their draft board, historically lose.

Just throwing this out there. How did the number 1 over all draft pick do in the NFL combine?

Except its not. Plenty of pro athletes do not have to run 40 yards.

Why is your limit 40 yards?

Why not 400?

…but it happens. There was a linebacker who tore his ACL mocking Aaron Rogers ’ “discount double check”.

Do you want me to continue this conversation and quote reputable sources about how the combine can significantly affect a player’s draft potential?

your just trolling at this point dude sorry

I am not saying it doesnt happen. I am saying when it does (rarely) happen, it rarely ever works out.

So does this mean you do not realize that there are distances other than 40 yards?

I am just trying to figure out why running 40 yards is your mark for a “true athlete” and how its the only one that matters.

there have been plenty of combine freaks with horrible NFL careers and visa versa

but if you watch the NFL draft on TV, they routinely talk about the combine affecting a player’s draft position

how many drafts have you watched mr kipper?

Ah, the old “You can’t judge a book by its cover”.

My favorite: The people who dress in blue jeans and t-shirts driving beat up pickup trucks who are filthy rich. I’ve crossed paths with a few over the years. Some of the nicest people I’ve ever met.

Have to defend two famous people here and I hate doing it but to those guys credit 98% of all who dream of an NFL career and even try out don’t get in. My understanding is you get invited to try out at that level you don’t just invite yourself. Many of the guys that fail to get into pro sports are machines.

TLDR it’s way more than being fit to be in pro sports.

I can’t think of a single respected person in the video game industry that even owns a suit

I ran track in high school with a guy that played for the Patriots briefly. I was on an undefeated floor hockey team in elementary school with a guy that ended up playing for the US olympic hockey team/san jose sharks.

The bottom line is that if you put in the time and energy you can probably make it. Just showing up doesn’t work. I have as many hours logged as pro video game players, but I’m not on their level because I haven’t put in the energy and I play in tourist mode.

Back in the day I had the dedication required to be a really good starsiege tribes player, but I was like 14 and pro video game players/streamers weren’t really a thing.

You know what. I would love to see your data on the combine effecting the top 10 draft picks.

Also, even pro athletes like that can have the exact same thing happen to them.

It’s luck of the draw with injuries like that.

It could have happened to the other guy as well.

So what’s the issue? An athlete injured himself. Doesn’t mean he’s made of glass. And nobody is saying big guys can’t run. So what’s your point?
