BM literally trash and especially high keys during thundering affix due to no burst at at all.
BM hunter is all around trash right now, rotation doesn’t even feel smoothe. I’m not having fun whatso ever with it atm
Funny you mention Thundering, because I’m 90% sure the 30% damage boost given by Thundering doesn’t apply to pets. Since pets are 75-80% of our damage, we’ve likely been omitted from the Thundering fan club.
Hunter feels like garbage in general right. Low defensives. No burst for BM. Stand cast MM squishy as all get up and go. The rotations all feel off. Just feels bad. Survival is garbage mongoose spamming BS. I’m half tempted to honestly just quit. I really have no desire to play another class. But I’m just not having fun with hunter. At least in Shadow lands we had some fun stuff.
I was just leveling my warrior, the more i play it there more i want to play my hunter…
I like being an archer, but BM needs a rework and so does mm… sv just needs to be deleted
I feel the same in regards to not wanting to play or reroll another class. My hunter is my original character from back in the day and the one I’ve always liked to do stuff on.
I don’t particularly care about how good or mediocre the damage is; though I understand why it’s a concern for those pushing harder content (I just don’t foresee myself doing said content where it’ll be a make or break situation for me)…but what I do care about is how it feels to play and none of the specs feel right to me at the moment. I just want to have fun playing my hunter.
I feel ranged classes, as a whole don’t feel super fun. I ditched my SPriest because PvE is atrociously unfun. You’re fighting the class mechanics more than you are mobs it’s frustrating.
I’ve tried Mage, Lock, Evoker (range ish). I like BM Hunter the best, personally.
Still I feel it can be tightened up. Frenzy is not a fun buff to keep up, for example. You’d think it wouldn’t be too bad but I find Aff lock much easier to juggle a zillion dots than 1 skill/buff for some reason. Probably because most don’t have CDs and refreshing Haunt gives you plenty of room to stop and cast. Barbed Shot/Frenzy just falls off too much. The free Barbed proc doesn’t seem to last long enough to bank it until the last moment to keep it up. It should reset the CD and add 1 stack similar to Mind Blast for priest. You can spec 2 and proc for a total of 3 charges. Frenzy should last 2s longer than the CD, IMO. 1 sec would be better but 2 would be smoother. For damage that’s the most frustrating part, IMO.
Defensives/heals should get a buff. Reduce CD on Exhil to 1m base and make Spirit Mend heal for % and not a flat amount and Leech needs to be retuned for better sustained. I feel like every class has better sustained heals and a few are normal part of a DPS rotation which is wild.
Anyhow this is my fav class, surprised it took me so long to try it I feel like I been missing out.
This was final straw for me on BM (no Thundering benefit), was already peeved that the AoE for BM is basically maintain two separate buffs to maximize your AoE.
Swapped to MM and it’s dramatically easier to AoE and do double the damage BM can on AoE.
For raiding I may run a ST BM build, but until they FIX BM it’s dead to me in Mythic +
The lack of burst is probably because they don’t have any shots with a casting timer. It’s a tradeoff I suppose.
As for AoE, I absolutely hate that playstyle and it’s probably the reason I won’t bother with high end PvE content in this game. Why does every spec need to have AoE as part of it’s rotation?
On AoE…
In a raid environment they don’t and it’s fine.
In Mythic +, you have a timer and 80% of the dungeon is kill trash in optimal path so as to time the key. In that environment it is essential that every dps spec can preform within 5% on AoE.
Problem is we the players didn’t create that environment, Blizzard did and yet they gimp certain specs for no good reason in Mythic + AoE.
Currently BM isn’t there, heck on half the trash pulls you will probably be beat by the tank.
MM is doing double the AoE for half the work BM does, yet we constantly get this horse hockey that BM is “easy mode” and “fully mobile shouldn’t also do competitive AoE”.
Nah. Call of the Wild is supposed to be our big 3 min burst cooldown, but it’s undertuned and currently bugged if you take Animal Companion, making it a horribly designed talent. A burst build was included. It just sucks.
I keep wondering why AOE is even in the game, tbh. It’s a relic of old game design and is just there to make you push different buttons since 99% of trash packs is tank/spank with the occasional interrupt.
It would be much more fun if there was only light cleave that couldn’t be sustained and trash would cycle targets to draw out defensives and utility, peels, etc.
AOE is a dated combat mechanic. Weird to see it’s still a thing outside of niche situations where you need to cleave.
In Shadowlands BMs were kinda trash too, mostly in Season 1-2 where we had Soulforge Embers as a totally garbage legendary, a joke.
Season 3-4 we had Fragments of Elder Antlers synergizing with Wild Spirits, that made things way better, considering BM always get a “decent” dps on AoE situations. Since they removed that we have no burst or competitive power whatsoever.
Yeah. It definitely feels like the intended design for BM was supposed be Stampede and Call of the Wild, but both talents are too weak and/or broken to ever be considered over other options.
BM requires no brain power to maintain its AoE rotation, so not sure what you mean by half the work.
Silvershaft isn’t wrong though. WoW is ez-mode MMO in general, but MM just has to hit the AoE buttons to do good AoE. BM has to start the AoE with Multi-Shot, weave in as many Kill Commands as possible in a six second window, while making sure to keep Frenzy stacks up. Is it hard? Subjective, but I’d say no. Is it more work than MM? Absolutely, and any argument otherwise is either ignorant or disingenuous.

Maintaining Frenzy and Beast Cleave is 95% of your AoE. If you have a weak aura I can do it with one hand while eating a sandwich with my other.
Not saying MM is difficult either but atleast it’s more than three buttons.
What’s annoying about BM is they HAD great talent opportunity from Azerite powers. Dance of Death, Rapid Reload, and Primal Instincts were all great M+ “talents” that they could have utilized moving forward. Yes, by 8.3 they were OP, but that was only because of corruption and the corrupted weapon. Without corruption, they were just really good, really fun, and worked great in M+. I really wish they’d bring those back for BM.
