Blues Don't Matter At All Anymore

Aren’t heirlooms becoming the equivalent of greens soon?
If so, blues will matter again while leveling.

wat lololol.

I don’t get why the color should matter at all if your replacing the item at the same rate. And if your complaining about the rate of drops then go play another game, because I don’t see this changing. Personally I prefer the drops to come steadily in small increments rather then rarely with huge upgrades.

The introduction of easy to get epics was because catch up mechanics. People were stuck in feeder guilds for an entire expansion and needed a way to progress into the next raid. At the beginning of the expansion we all start out in greens and blues and quickly work our way into epics after that is there any point in a blue dropping? It would just be vendor trash.

And yes blue items still have a different stat weight. You can see this most easily with world quest azerite pieces. They have one ring less then epics.

No idea. XD

Purples haven’t mattered since Wrath 3.1…you’re about 6 expansions late, get over it.

The Argent Tournament to be exact.

Posting in yet another purple font thread.

They can make them matter again and make legendary items well legendary again like we had up until the end of cata.

The concern (and this is from a friend who was in the beta) was the drop rate of gear HAD been visibly reduced. A new toon gearing up struggled to be able to go from max level bfa to entry level shadowlands because gear was a LOT harder to come by.

“We want to make gear more meaningful” ended up feeling like a “if there is less gear dropping, it has more value”.

They said that replacing gear in SL was definitely not easy to do.

I’m hoping they’ve adjusted the drop rate, because if that’s true … unless you’re exceptionally well geared … entry into SL is going to hurt.

Man the more I hear coming from the dev team the more I’m starting to despise the direction SL is headed.

Up to:

  • Locked covenants
  • Capped AOE
  • Triple nerfed Prot Warriors.
  • Reducing gold from old content
  • And now lower drop rates

Its almost if they want me to play a different game instead.

I legit thought this was a blue or black lives matter post lol. Title can be easily misconstrued

It started in Wrath but it wasn’t prolific.
I’d say it wasn’t really prolific until end of WoD/Legion.

Because the players kept complaining that it was unfair for players who didn’t do any form of difficult group content didn’t get access to purples.

Realistically the game was better when the non-raiding part of the game involved things like special low drop rate epics from specific bosses in dungeons, as well as badge rewards which you could slowly build over time.

I think TBC probably did it the best imo you went through questing and getting greens with the occassional epic quest granting a rare(remember that is what blue items are technically called) and powerful item, usually around equal to what you would also get if participated in the dungeons and got lucky.

Then when you were nearing max level level their were difficult group quests, usually ones that involves a decent quest chain beforehand. But they were really strong, stronger than dungeon rares, but probably just a bit weaker than heroic rares.
So you could work on getting those as you acquired gear for heroic, or perhaps to fill spots whilst you were doing heroics.

Meanwhile doing heroics you would get badge currency which you could save to eventually spend on raid equivalent items to beef out your gear with those shiny purples as you hopefully transferred into raid style content where you would start getting stronger and stronger purples, and later on if the correct class and super lucky the elusive orange.

Now it’s just hit max level and do WQs. Exciting right?

I get rando purples when they don’t matter anymore.

Except that Kara was an insanely easy entry raid and very freely pugged.

And that’s not to mention the sunwell patch came out and epics were fairly easy to get decked out into.

Hence, it all started in BC.

Edit to add: also epics at the end of every heroic.

Gear is gear. Not sure why you are getting hungup on the quality.

I get what you’re saying, I’d be fine with it, but Raid Gear has always been Purple. They’ve just made raiding more accessable to everyone and made dungeons drop raid level loot (when in Mythic)… so I’m not sure what they’d do. Maybe Heroic or Mythic Raids drop Purples, and only Mythic Dungeons that drop comparable gear as Heroic Raids would too? Everything else would be blue?

I don’t really see the big deal of not doing that either though.

Who cares?

yes, I noted that heroics had epics, y’know cause they were new and you could only get them in heroics at the end. Meanwhile, you could get epics in normal dungeons in vanilla albeit very low.
MC was never that difficult and was pugged on high pop servers during vanilla, and obviously is pugged during classic. Also, magister terrace was the end of the BC life line where many changes were heading in the wrath department

Does the color really matter when the ilvls are all spaced properly among content?

I don’t even think this matters anymore. All that matters now is the actual stats.
