Blood: Idea for radical dancing rune weapon change

So me and an irl blood dk friend started talking about dancing rune weapon, and how it sort of feels off, so we came up with an idea, and I’m interested what other DKs think of it.

What if instead of dancing rune weapon spawning extra copies of your rune weapon, you actually just animate your primary rune weapon and then you gain a powerful set of “unarmed” abilities that are temporary replacements(and enhancements) for your existing abilities like heart strike and death strike.

A perfect example is the Sire Denathrius fight, he has phases where he fights with his sword and phases where his sword is animated and doing it’s own thing while he is fighting us with his bare hands.

We could even get some fun vampire abilities, like maybe a vampiric claw attack that replaces heart strike and a bite attack that replaces death strike.

I think it would improve the fantasy of Dancing Rune Weapon to be fighting beside your weapon instead of summoning new weapons out of thin air.

Also it should dispel disarm effects and make the dk immune to disarm for the duration for, obvious reasons.

I’d ask for just a permanent Remornia-style rune weapon as our Apex talent rather than disarming ourselves, but otherwise I was kinda sitting on the same idea haha.

EDIT: Although there is something to be said for going all in on the bare-handed, teeth and claws vampire style of combat…

So… Hollow Palm Technique? With the Dancing Dervish?

A Vampiric Monk?

A Vampire Lord doesn’t even use weapons and they still sustain themselves in HOMM3.

Hmmmm… :thought_balloon:

It’s a neat idea but Denathrius has something most of us don’t.
Claws.

So maybe if we resorted to a backup weapon like a pair of daggers of shortswords….
Oh hey…. DW Blood with a summonable 2H Dancing Rune Weapon Minion… that’s an idea…

We’re knights.

You could make the attacks ‘combos’ with the weapon.

Things like Death Strike becomes: Your weapon strikes deep and you draw blood from the wound to heal yourself. The animation could be the weapon striking and then a stream of blood coming from where it hits to the Blood DK.

Basically, instead of just copying what you do it does ‘combo’ moves with the DK.

A lot of the DK tier sets actually do have claws on the gauntlets, I’ve noticed…
