I’d give up all the jewelry for Dark Ranger and San’layn looks.
Well if it were up to me, I’d give Blood Elves a couple of hairstyles from Void Elves, and even a skin color or two from Void Elves, as that can also replicate undead skin tones to an extent.
The weird thing to me is that a Night Elf can nearly replicate both a Nightborne or even High/Blood Elf with all the new assets they recieved, while Nightborne only have 3 skins and Blood Elves only have darker skin tones.
I think as far as Dark Rangers go, I’m starting to worry, not due to thin resources, but due to Blizzard’s actual desire to add them specifically, which I am starting to question, schrodinger’s cat if you will. Tattoos though I see absolutely no reason not to add.
One observation I’m going to make about the timeline of requests is that people have been arguing for High Elves and their features for years, which equated to skin tones for Void Elves and eye colors for Blood Elves. Arguably the contribution is smaller for Blood Elves, but unfortunately the primary basis for both was to claim High Elven aesthetic, which the Blood Elves had a shorter way to go.
Now as far as other requests go, there is a lot more of a centralized community drive for them presently, but these are fairly newer requests being made en masse, so it might be taking longer to develop assets which didn’t really exist for players prior.
But they ought to add more existing assets to Blood Elves as I know they can.
As far as hair goes I’m more in favor of more sharing across races but specifically in terms of VE - BE as you say I think all VE hair styles should be shared to BE’s, they got our entire skin tone diversity giving them a second visual theme separate from the Void theme they had.
Idk… personally I dislike this argument, I see far too many HE fans use it to feel superior to other peoples requests and or make themselves feel more validated in requesting additional things, I agree the HE request is valid but the time spent requesting it seems irrelevant to me.
So it was a bigger deal given to the VE’s to which I agree, but the article citation above I think is reason / grounds to argue for blue eyes for Blood Elves anyways. Interacting with the NPC race isn’t the same as being the playable race for the last decade, so while I agree Alliance HE’s should be playable and now are as confirmed by the customizations intended as such, I disagree Blood Elves somehow aren’t High Elves. Now I don’t know if thats what you’re saying it doesn’t look like it, but assuming we’re saying the same thing then the HE theme is already inherently BE, so I do think precedence in that case should be to Blood Elves, so the eye color is of even less significance, as I feel its a big difference giving BE’s an eye color that can be argued to be reverting with the Sunwell and being the main successors to the HE’s both in the majority of the Thalassian race and also the playable available race as opposed to opening the HE theme up to Void Elves, in the context that they previously were against adding the Alliance HE faction of Thalassians.
I don’t think the requests are new unless in terms of customization. But Blizzard has been focusing on play agency I thought for awhile? They plan expansions ahead of time? And we had such player agency comments since Holy Golden Eyes, Velonara came into play … during BFA but again things are planned ahead of time, I think the logical conclusion would be to give BE players the player agency for Dark Rangers even if it was relatively new to players asking for it which I disagree with it being a new request anyways, but I still think they should and could have come to that conclusion without fan feedback. Also the toy introduced in BFA seems very suggestive to that end but perhaps thats just my opinion.
Overall I think our main points seem to agree but I do disagree here and there.
I am hear to voice my support for more and better suited customization options. You guys are doing good! I just feel like more could be done and big points are being missed such as the blood elven tattoos that are supposed to be brought from a culture change, Red and orange eye colors for the sunfury and some npcs in warcraft 3.
I would also like to request the blood elf dk haircolors to be available for all members as the white is hard to compare too, blond is nice but white is really divine. And the sky blue is iconic. My dk adores these colors and I would like them on my other characters. I also wouldn’t mind Illadari customization (some demonhunter stuff) for base races as they are already there, they can sort of act like felblood customization. And the undead high elf customization is very iconic to the horde!
Of course we have the San’layn thread to support that as an allied race but if it has to be customization I hope it takes as much and more assets as an allied race. - perhaps different voice line options. And perhaps for other races too eventually such as wildhammer voice packs for dwarves. This would be fun to have San’layn, felblood, high elf, undead voice packs to choose from eventually.
And by this I’m referring to both the Alliance and Horde vying for these features for Void Elves and Blood Elves, not adding High Elves to the Alliance as a playable race.
And unfortunately this is indeed what the community asked for, almost exclusively.
I always argued I’d rather have gold and green tattoos to reinforce actual Blood Elven identity, while unfortunately the vocal majority was fixated on blue eyes at the time.
And I was never personally opposed to giving Blood Elves blue eyes, I just never favored the idea myself and wanted to see their aesthetic taken in a different direction, rather than the blue eyes and jewelry we have now.
That’s the crappy part of all the High Elf drama, as I feel the more militant Blood Elf players shot themselves in the foot trying to secure the High Elf aesthetic exclusively.
I myself in retrospect wish I could have driven Blood Elf themes personally rather than focusing as much on High Elves, but we never knew if we were ever going to win the aesthetic for the Alliance, especially in the face of such adversity from both the devs and the community, so one had to take a side and fight tooth and nail for the bare minimum. But now both groups have the High Elf aesthetic to a degree and are focusing on making other requests, which unfortunately will likely take a bit longer, but hopefully we’ll get multiple Blood Elf tribes and aesthetics by launch.
Well I guess it all comes down to how much one believes in the power of player requests. If we can sway them to give Blood Elf additions in a very timely and specific manner, as well as have one half of the community convince them not to give the Alliance High Elf aesthetic for one expansion, only for them to acquiesce to the other half an expansion later, then we hold a fairly large influence. Conversely if they don’t listen to community feedback, then no amount of arguing is going to sway them and they will have all the content and visuals planned for an entire expansion.
I personally believe it’s somewhere in the middle as while, yes they have general settings, mechanics, themes and what have you planned out, they can and have come out of left field with unannounced visual additions randomly for content patches, which I like to believe draws from community desire to an extent, but on their terms.
I like to think we have the same end result for what we’d like in mind, but indeed have different ways of getting there in mind, which is where we may disagree from time to time.
This is personally my favorite idea for an addition, to drive the core aesthetic for baseline Blood Elves forward, rather than reverting them to High Elves.
I also feel that Blood Elves should have multiple racial groups to draw on. San’layn and Dark Rangers for sure as 90% of their population did die and with Shadowlands being a thing and the Helm of Domination destroyed, it would be great to see them become more centralized under their own banners as opposed to the majority of them being enslaved to the Scourge with only small pockets of free willed members of each group.
As far as Felbloods go, they’re harder to elaborate on as they were a hostile group we saw closer to the end of the BC era. Just as I believe with San’layn, I also believe Kael’thas returning to the realm of the living would definitely help bring any hostile Felbloods back into the Thalassian fold. We also did have Sunfury defectors, so we could also focus on them and include some Felbloods amongst their ranks.
These would be fun too, especially with some of these already existing ingame.
Confused as to why we’re talking about Alliance High Elves in a Blood Elf thread so I’m going to post my list again.
Blood Elves have several subgroups which we would like to see more customization for.
Farstrider Fantasy:
Farstriders are the Blood Elf ranger faction. They have nature themes and are seen in Warcraft 2 and 3. They’re an important part of the Thalassian military.
Customization features which appeal to the Farstrider Fantasy are:
- Tattoos like the one seen in Warcraft 2.
- Feathers in hair for nature themes.
- Arguably braids both long and short to keep hair from being caught in bow strings.
Magister Fantasy:
Magisters are the Blood Elf caster fantasy. Powerful mages of Quel’thalas and an important part of the Thalassian nation.
- Runic tatoos.
- Longer hairstyles for ladies.
- Eyes that match spell color effects for various casters such as orange for fire.
- Hair crystals.
Blood Knight Fantasy:
Blood Knights are the Blood Elf Paladin faction. Once gritty, they’ve been redeemed by the Light.
- Scars because close combat injuries happen.
- Torn or damaged ears.
- Light colored tatoos to go with the golden eyes.
Other additions:
Class:
- Druids — Sin’dorei magisters have manipulated nature for ages. If Kultirans can be Druids, why not? They can be motivated by a desire to heal the Dead Scar and can have a redemption arc like Blood Knights did.
- Shaman — Some people are requesting this. The healing to the Dead Scar narrative can be used here too technically.
Hair:
- Strawberry Blonde hair color.
- Pure white hair color.
- Two-tone hair colors.
- Luminescent two-tone light hair. (Similar to DI fire hair but light.)
- Possibly unrealistic anime hair colors.
- Since Void Elves are getting our skin colors can we get their hairstyles?
- Afro-ethnic hairstyles like afros and dreadlocks to go with our dark skin colors.
- More hairstyles for all races would be great tbh.
Facial Hair:
- Wizard Beards.
- More options in general, see Night Elven implimentation.
Skin:
- Freckles
- Shiny/Metallic skin tones to reflect the magical nature of Blood Elves.
Ears:
- Ear armor.
Dark Ranger Theme:
Dark Rangers are undead Rangers but use the Blood Elf rig. The skins for them and eyes for them already exists and it’s just a matter of turning them on. They could also add a Blood Elf rig to Forsaken as a toggle or choice but Forsaken players might not like that.
- Unlock undead skin for all classes.
- Unlock red eyes.
The more out there themes:
Darkfallen Theme:
Darkfallen are undead Blood Elves found in Northrend. They’re vampyres and tried to join The Horde during BfA.
- Undead Skins
- Red eyes
- Bat-like ears
- Claws
- Fangs
- Possibly bat wings.
Felblood Elf Theme:
Felblood Elves are Blood Elves who overloaded on the fel and mutated. They have bright colorful skin, horns blackened hands, and little feathery winglets.
- Colorful skins with darkened cracked hands.
- Unlocking DH horns for all classes.
- Wings/winglets, dark, light, possibly matching hair color.
Please let me know if I missed anything.
In reference as to why Blood Elves were only given blue eyes, but this feels like a disingenuous question in an attempt to make an ignorant comment.
see the big curling plant on the center left of the screen. an fx like that but smaller and flowing thru a few strands of hair. like sparkling sunlight. watch video
it would look like a much more subdued form of dark iron dwarf fire hair, with the fx travelling down a few hair strands, instead of going up, and be in sunlight colors instead of firey. nightborne have something similar in suramar. its been dubbed, mana hair. but theirs is more moonlight based.
I do love the Nightbornes mana hair and it’s a shame the playable models don’t have it. I’d love to see Nightborne get theirs proper and Blood Elves get their own variant, Light derived for Blood Elves and Fel for both. There are other colors they could add I’m sure, but those would best fit their racial identity first and foremost.
I also think they could make the void tentacle hair some sort of light style for BEs thus giving
Blood Elves all their hair. In addition to the well deserved second visual theme. That idea adds to the light themes we already have imo.
Agreed, I would love both their Undead themes and Light themes expanded. Especially as this is a great expansion to do so based on the afterlife.
The light tendrils in place of tentacles would look great on Blood Elves, that coupled with both gold eyes and gold runic tattoos would look stunning.
I would also like a lighter gold option as well.
Having a Dark ranger customization or San’layn for them as compensation for Alliance getting blue eyed elves and light skin tone would be nice.
- Warpaint all different colours. (I would prefer metallics gold, silver, bronze etc. Also a gritty ash/soot would be nice.)
- Anklets and Barefoot sandals please ~
- More make up options like smoky eyes for them.
- More body jewelry. I approve of this.
- Massive hairstyles.
- People mention more tattoos. Runic and Lightforged ones sound cute. Makes me think of henna a bit.
All the ones listed in point form I would prefer for every race tho.
Tattoos would be nice.
Also would love some new hairstyles that aren’t absolutely hideous like the ones they’re adding in Shadowlands.
I want a low manbun.
I also want runic tattoo similar to the nightborne but golden in color.
Here’s an updated list of requests.

Pretty sure blizzard said no on that one.
I support all these customizations! Especially for long hair/braided hairstyles, and facial features like freckles. <3
A lot of really nice addition suggestions! I would like druids as well, still before that I would like an updated Slivermoon. It really needs a bit of polish…
Still gets my vote! Both genders need jewelry options not just the ladies. The models for these items are already made, I have no clue why they cannot be placed on a male model.
