BlizzConline Thread: Turbo WRA Edition

As much as I do love the art team’s approach to scenic vistas and even the character designs (seriously, let me play a Night Fae because they look so cool), part of me really wishes that they didn’t have such a glaring blind spot when it comes to weapons.

I don’t think I’ve collected a single one in this entire expansion that I’d ever consider using for even a moment because they are all so gawdy.

i wasnt even talking to them.

nice job!

if i were, i wouldve replied! imagine that!

Mhmmm
Thanks

Yet… I’m the only one mentioning art and you reply shortly after

:woman_shrugging:t2:

ANYWAYS.

YES. #firstwowproblems

i still wasnt replying to you. coincidences happen.

but if you dont believe me, i guess thats awesome!

I guess that’s a point of discourse: is Blizzard aware of how good their art team is and is it possible they’re knowingly relying on them to carry the hype while letting other aspects of the game fester.

That said, as good as they are, they aren’t the end-all be-all. The cinematics for games like FFXIV are fantastic and the artwork for GW2 has always been memorable.

On a positive note (since I’ve been negativeposting too much lately) I think BC classic will be fun. I have a lot of fond memories of that era and it will be nice to level a low rez draenei. I saved the name Miko on Bloodsail Buccaneers for this eventuality! Though this character was actually a dwarf back then…

I’m glad people are getting what they want but a Classic server past - well, Classic - seems weird to me. Hard to… tangibly describe but if just, over time, they play ‘catch up’ just seems a bit funny.

I actually keep saying something like this can make wPvP and battlegrounds still relevant while also letting us queue for content and rated PvP cross faction.

Tensions like this are fun.

It would definitely be odd if they eventually reached, like… Cata. Up to WotLK it still feels like a different era. At least prior to 3.3 when they added the LFG system anyway.

I do wonder where it ends though. Do we really get Cataclysm “classic”? Do we go up to Arthas and stop?

I think they’ll probably stop at Wrath. Or ‘should’ at least.

Leave three optional Classics like that, keep WoW at wherever it leaves off, and then go on to develop WoW 2. I’m sure Blizzard Entertainment’s good on money for the devs to maintain those, develop a full sequel, and keep those servers running.

I agree I could see “Classic” going up to Wrath, but not further. There are ways in which the game has changed since Cata, obviously, and some things from Cata, MoP, and so on that one now can’t do (like legendary questlines). But, while maybe it’s just because I started right at the turnover between Wrath and Cata so it feels like “the after-time” to me, but BC and Wrath go with the Classic idea for me and Cata onward doesn’t.

The only expansion of old I’m interested in playing is Mists of Pandaria.

I feel like WoW 2 has basically got to be the next step. So many of WoW’s systems are just aging, creaking things stacked on top of each other.

FFXIV and GW2 made me really notice this. WoW’s core systems feel absolutely ancient by comparison, so much that realizing it kind of shocked me a little.

I feel like one of the few people who flat out does not want WoW2.
You spend over a decade working on progressing and collecting things to just throw it all away?

I’d really they rather spend that time developing a new game to import what we have to an updated system.

Yeah I think I’m the opposite to Tanoke, the core systems feel fine to me, its just the new content that turns me off. I love WoW’s combat compared to newer games like ESO and FFXIV and I even prefer its character customization, I’m just not crazy about the writing or the end game content design.

I mean given all the cross promotion stuff within the BattleNet client I wouldn’t imagine it’s that far off for them to figure out a GW1/GW2 Hall of Heroes type thing.

The combat is ESO and FFXIV… feels…

chewy, to me. ESO is, well, ESO. The GCD in FFXIV had me staring at my screen in growing annoyance until I adjusted to it (though I’m told you can shorten it later on.) I have to admit, as dated as WoW feels at times, the combat is still more fun than many things I’ve tried. I made a Thaumaturge because it felt closest to the mage I knew for years, and it’s fine? But it’s just not quite as satisfying.

They should keep going with Classic servers, IMO. Every era has its fans. Every one has benefits and downsides. I’d love to see Cata/MOP servers when the time comes.

And we’re going to be waiting a while on either of those considering TBC hasn’t started yet.

TBH WoW 2 or not, As long as I can keep my characters and bring them over I’d be alright with it.

But they’ve also spent a ton of money and time investing into upgrading the systems of this game and have been doing so. I feel like if we were going to get a WoW 2 ever, they wouldn’t be wasting their time and money on that. There’s no way the overhead would let them.

They let entire games go to the wayside. WoW would be as well if we were getting a WoW 2 remotely any time soon.

One good aspect of WoW’s more cartoonish art style is that it’s able to remain timeless and rather unique in a sea of boring MMOs that either tried to rip off its style or did their own generic thing. I’ve certainly seen people compare it to ‘Fortnite’ before like it’s a bad thing. Fortnite has a strong aesthetic that has remained consistent for its life-span. That’s a good thing. Being a bit cartoony certainly isn’t bad.

FFXIV looks nice but that’s because it’s done by people with the time, money, and effort to care, same as this game. Elder Scrolls has always had its own unique look too.

It’s not much of a surprise why these three are the top three at the moment (Runescape might be ahead of ESO, not sure, but it is certainly another unique game). Beyond the legacy of the IPs, these games do carry something in them where other games have failed.

SWTOR was a hit for a bit but it died off. Star Wars wasn’t enough to keep it going strong forever. Many other franchises tried and never even got off the ground with their MMO projects.

Like it or not there’s more to this game that keeps people here beyond even friendships. Warcraft has a strong aesthetic that is backed up by some of the best gameplay in the business. Even if it’s frustratingly wrapped up in some absurd systems that do make people quit. They really ought to realize by now this is bad for them, but I guess internally numbers do fine enough.

Even Classic has come along and proven that although the game has radically changed the core elements that were there still stand true and interest people. Classic is active, more active than many MMOs on the market that’s trying to compete with WoW.
