I will not be going this year as well. Usually go with my kid. We decided its time to give up on Blizz. Since they continue to refuse to listen to us players. Seems like all they care about is the mobile market.
It was an opinion based off the last Blizzcon opinions.
The fact they fired most of the marketing people who helped put blizzcon together .
If they have a blizzcon this year, I won’t buy the VT. I usually do but not last year or this one. Not worth it any more
That’s pretty much for certain as it is the middle of an xpac, so the next one will be announced.
This year should be full of hype. I’d be shocked if Diablo 4 and WoW’s xpac aren’t announced. If I had the vacation time I’d go in person this year.
With everything that has happened I dont plan on trying to go this year unless a few friends still want to.
The feeling at Blizzcon this year was a lot different than years past. Not sure if I’ve just gotten older, I’ve changed, Blizzard’s changed, or any combination of those. Used to feel like an actual convention for fans and the like, this year it felt like a big commercial that they got to charge people to watch. I know there was always some level of commercialization of it (Obviously). This year just felt very ‘in your face about it.’
I had a visible cringe at every “we’re family” reminder on the screens.
It was also very, very crowded.
I won’t be going to another one. Glad that I got to experience it in the past.
With Activision reigning in costs and 2019 going to be a very lean year I would not expect a really lavish blizzcon like in the past. Will probably be very toned down with out all the glitz. If they spent a crazy amount if money on Blizzcon after laying off 800 employees, that would look pretty bad to investors and the street
They might just not have a BlizzCon this year. There were other years they didn’t have BlizzCons – 2006 & 2012; so they have precedent.
Maybe they bring back the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational and do their E-sports stuff.
My issue with the we’re family message is that when it came from Mike Morhaime, it felt genuine and warm each time. When it came from him, it still felt like that, when it came from Brack it didn’t feel that way. It felt canned and obligatory, and then coupled with the announcements made and what they did to Heroes of the Storm and it’s fan base as well as these recent lay offs. I worry that this new blizzard is going to create content for the sake of creating content instead of making us wait for games that blow us away.
They could have made starcraft brood war part 3-10 in the time it took to start Starcraft 2 instead, but the game they delivered as well as the story they finished, the cinematics and even the gameplay made that wait from when I was 10 or 11 worth the wait.
Diablo 3 has got a lot of flak for doing so many seasons, but I have to give them props for how much fun the necromancer class is and if they make other classes that feel that fun such as a druid I can handle snack sized content. But I don’t want it to ever be a premier diablo pass that grants access to new areas or classes when you buy a season pass.
Season passes are the devils work and are never transparent about how long they last or what they are. cough Destiny! Anyways. I hope it gets better, I’m holding out that it will and my boat sale still has time in wow so I’m really hoping they deliver that Azshara fight in the way it deserves to shine.
I agree with Leviathan who said it could very well turn into Acticon as Activision assumes control of it so they showcase all the ATVI properties
I’m not going to lie I sing that song to my son at night sometimes. I’m not really good at other songs, but that song or Portishead. yeah he falls right to sleep. I’m a grown man, but that song just has a way about it.
I’ve never been there, but one day I might go when I’m not feeling too lazy about it.
I usually just see what the virtual ticket offers and figure out if I want it or not.
Don’t regret getting the silly airship mounts from 17.
New expansion? You sure they got it in them? I’m not. Classic might take off and change some plans…
I’m questioning if we’ll get a Blizzcon this year, especially considering the lackluster example from last year’s presentations. The Diablo panels alone should make them ashamed.
Also, still very salty and annoyed that the Virtual Ticket did not provide the concert streams for reviewing. Really sucked that there were 3 last year, and no videos to be able to have watched.
Those panels with the voice actors were awesome - and I’ve played WoW for 14 years with no sound on. Now I listen to the cinematics once in a while.
The reveals are always fun to watch. The art panels and behind the scenes stories (like them making the statues and stuff) are wonderful. I’ve never felt like buying the virtual ticket was a waste.
I won’t go in person tho - waaaay too many people around. Blizzcon is better watched comfortably at home. =P
