Surprised to hear from Ybarra, thought he was busy giving himself the best gear in the game to scalp boost runs from noobs.
paywall detected.
Ybarra seems like a cool dude. I give him way more benefit of the doubt than Jbrack.
Unfortunately, his hands are most likely tied by corporate incompetence above him and people with scuffed priorities below him.
in California. in cosplay.
The sweat fumes will reek like fel, and will make even the orciest orc pass out.
San Diego Comic Con is usually in July. Putting two huge cons back to back won’t bode well for Blizz
I didn’t even think of that part. There are some people at Blizzcon that are that gamer meme when it comes to taking a shower. Add in So-Cal heat and holy crap. Anyone who has gone to Blizzcon knows that opening ceremony room has so many people it starts cold enough to want a coat and ends warm enough to want shorts. In the summer that must feel like a sauna.
Blizzcon rules don’t allow young children and I have seen only a TINY handful of under 18s there at all. It is not a child friendly environment at all. Nothing for them to do a Blizzcon either.
You will walk MILES a day for Blizzzcon and all around Anaheim. I mean TONS of walking. Bring your athletic shoes or something super comfy. I have been 3 times. You spend a lot of time outside and almost everything in CA is outside. Everything…
November is a way way nicer time to have it and pairing it with other local events at Disney and stuff has always been popular.
Blizzcon involves almost everyone who works at Blizzard to pre and staff it. It also usually involves an insane amount of live broadcast and stage production IT and skills. The costs to pay travel, hotels, shipping for all the Blizz statues and stuff is insane. Add in finding a place that has the local talent to handle the production capability. The LA region is know for having it, Remote state, not so much.
Sounds like its on the backburner.
I wouldn’t anticipate Blizzard pulling themselves together for a Con when they’re already tearing at themselves from the inside.
Retaking live events its a first step, however I don’t like Blizzcon only for the things offer by Blizzard, I went to the last 3 Blizzcon and met a lot of cool people and it was a great experience as a foreign tourist, since I did some activities around LA too.
Actually no, having it during Nov is good
Blizzcon is VERY much about the people you meet and experiences. The announcements can be watched on video. That is not the coolest part. The cool part is the rest of it. The friends you get to see once a year, the new friends you make, all the fun interactions with fellow Blizz game players. It is just an overall fantastic experience.
I have no idea what they will do for a new one though. Things have changed so much. We always had to avoid “con crud” but still. We shall see.
And the location also has a lot of things for foreign tourist like me, Disney, LA has amazing places like Pinky’s hot dogs, a Nature museum with Dinosaurs, Fire & Ice mongol bbq…so many memories.
I’ve a business travel to implement software next month and Irvine was one of the options but I was selected for Aberdeen, South Dakota
at least I recommended my peer about some good places around Anaheim which is close to Irvine.
I’ll be at the bar, remembering the good old days when Metzen drank with us.
I’ll pour one out for the Bourbon Cowboy.
Just heard! gOoD nEwS, eVeRyOnE! No sarcasm there. Super excited for everyone. I hope they manage to have a tad more fun for people. Since it will be the first time being hosted since the pandemic. I think a great band would be awesome. I hope no one feels not included. All should be welcome. I didn’t get around to watching the interview… but overall I think it is great news.
How do you propose they do that? BlizzCon’s pretty much as much fun as it needs to be already. If you add more stuff, things start to compete against one another too much and attendees are forced to make hard decisions about which panels to attend. They already have demos of unreleased products and numerous other activities. The people I hang out with buy endless beers and make Horde noises.
I can’t think of anything more they could do without annoying people.
Slipknot.

This. It’s always fallen close enough to Halloween that you can go there and reap all of the pumpkin food from Downtown Disney (no admission needed) and the park. We used to get tickets for the Boogie Bash event back when it had the parkhopper perk, but it doesn’t look like it has that anymore unfortunately.
If you can walk to Blizzcon comfortably from your hotel, Disney is just a little* bit farther.
*if you enjoy walking
everyone get your fruit cosplays ready!
I never said they would bring the kids to the actual event.
Just take easiest scenario to discuss this point, one parent can go do stuff with the kids one day while the other attends the things they want to see, and then they switch on other days.
Bottom line is that dealing with kids is complicated. But it’s even more complicated when they’re in school.
And there’s a difference between “miles of walking” IN AN INDOOR, AIR-CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENT (you conveniently left the most important part out), and hiking around CA in the Summer OUTSIDE. Regardless, I was really just joking about nerds not going outside. ![]()
I have attended every BlizzCon except the first one and I’m a little confused by this. Where are you walking? I just walk from the Hilton to the convention center and back, then drive to restaurants. We generally eat at Yoshinoya Beef Bowl and Joe’s Crab Shack. Are you with a tour group or something?
The hotel room is inside. Also, all of BlizzCon is inside.
I like to see if they get same number of crowds post Blizzard scandal.
