Blizzards "War on Addons" is so counterintuitive

Lets argue that your argument is clearly an insufficient uniformed narrow minded one & especially for pvpers.
Many of us have wa’s to alert us for our pvp trink when it rng procs, for a loud preset chosen sound effect. Frequently also w/ a visual aura.
These proc alerts don’t play the game for us, & GL using your eyes, brains & ears to catch the current ui buff alert for this, you’ll miss it guaranteed & the sound effect is extremely fast and tiny. So over the fighting noises, thats Not Happening.

Now we certainly can’t rest yet, must not omit this blinkered statement …

We’re going to apply it to This game tho, WoW.
“It’s been this way 20 years.” well, no, no it hasn’t.
“20 years of bad design Finally Being Corrected so the genre can move forward is a good thing” /facepalm.
Ackshually, the pvp trinks were demoted, from use on click or kb to the
current rng horrid regressive ones.

Good Day Sir

  • last edited to cut an oops, info misplaced whilst writing this.

just wait till they see the subscription numbers plummet. taking away addons people have been using for literally 15 years is hilarious.

Blizzards track record in this regard isn’t good.

Players have good cause to be concerned.

Well good news, they’re not removing addons.

Yes they are… They are literally breaking them by hiding combat values.

Well, some of those features are ones they specifically wanted to remove.

it also has proven over the games entire life span to be counter to a buisnesses reason for ecisting… the more they screw with the original devs design philosophy the lower those subs keep dropping…

What war??? Blizzard is monarchy they do as they please , you either follow or leave and you all never leave

I mean, you could watch the interviews where they answer all of these questions. Or you could just continue to post randomly.

they’re not getting rid of all addons, for the 1,355,0973th time

But they’re not blanket removing all addons.

They’re changing the API, which they’ve done basically every expansion or patch.

Is it a requirement for CC to blindly lick the boot?

Like you cannot say with a straight face that Blizzard has a past that should afford them any trust, let alone trust that they’ll actually listen to feedback this time.

Which is breaking the combat addons and to a certain degree UI stuff. I hope the UI stuff will get ironed out. I really enjoy Elvui. Yet you knew the original poster did not mean literally all addons. The context clues and the knowledge you had before should have led you to naturally conclude this. You just wanted to dive in and say but not all addons!!!fingerpoint!1!!11!

Nothing in the original post suggested anything other than combat addons aside from the true mentions of UI. Which some are breaking.

Unfortunately I have encountered many people who did think that all addons are being removed because that is what is being spread around and people aren’t really looking into it + the information about it is kinda disjointed and not easy to find.

By the time an alpha goes into testing, development is already many months along. They are betting that only minor adjustments will need to be made, because Blizzard will not undo all their work, restart development, and delay the expansion.

You are not, absoulte majority of people want WA gone forever.

Wholeheartedly, thank you.

Imo it’s not entirely a bad base for them to build off of, while behind what mods can do the base UI is pretty damn solid.

The main things really to consider is for Blizzard to relax some restrictions and create workarounds for reskinning purposes of UI elements that do not show anything you don’t already have access to within the base UI so nothing to do with logic only aesthetics.

Example, Reskins of the CD manager / Personal Resource Bar / raidframes etc that don’t have any additional logic to them and rely on the base options ingame for customisation, however allow them to resize/reskin elements to look a little more uniform and neater like current Class HUDs do.

While also adding in additional options like a weapon swing timer etc for specs that rely on AAs for resources/interactions.

My oracle is telling me we should expect many more surprises between now and then.

And you are BOTH correct. Because while Blizzard had PLANNED to only remove essentially combat add ons, their current blanket nuke has taken out everything else too. So while their intention is one thing, their current ability to not screw up every other add on in the game is questioinable at best.

Please bear in mind, as I’ve said previously, I AGREE with the intent of cutting down all the add on dependency. But I really really think they should have introduced the “official” Bliz alternatives first. After all, they’ve already introduced the UI Editor and CD Manager. Get everything else sorted first before dropping the nuke
