Blizzard will 100%, without question, allow people to copy Anniv. characters over to ERA

ERA transfers is pennies compared to 100k+ people being allowed to copy over to ERA, and many will do it because they know ERA has staying power… What don’t you get?

Cezar is the same guy who advocated against MoS and not allowing re-turnins for world buffs to extend QoL to ERA… LOL! Can’t make it up!

I would love a character copy from SoD. My characters there are just rotting in that ghost town.

Allowing transfers from Classic Anniversary to Classic Era would first and foremost be a way for Blizzard to preserve player investment and reduce attrition at the end of a limited-time seasonal cycle. When Anniversary servers eventually wind down, many players face the prospect of losing all progress they made—characters, professions, gold, and social ties. That creates a major drop-off point where players may simply quit altogether. By offering a transfer path into Classic Era, Blizzard provides continuity for those players, keeping them in the ecosystem instead of watching them churn out. The longer those players remain active, the more months of subscription revenue Blizzard earns. Subscriptions are the backbone of World of Warcraft’s Classic revenue model, so even modest increases in retention translate into significant income over time.

In addition, transfers would serve as a stabilizing population management tool. Classic Era has historically seen fluctuating population levels, with some clusters thriving and others nearly empty. Seasonal or event-based servers like Classic Anniversary can create bursts of activity that disappear once the novelty fades. Allowing those players to transfer into Era helps repopulate and refresh existing worlds, keeping economies active and social hubs lively. Healthy population levels reduce the risk of dead servers, which in turn keeps other players engaged longer. That indirect benefit—sustaining player activity and server health—translates into steadier subscription retention, lower support overhead from low-population complaints, and fewer calls for realm merges or special maintenance.

From a revenue standpoint, Blizzard could easily justify attaching a modest transfer fee to cover the service’s operational cost and turn it into a passive, recurring income stream. Paid character transfers have existed in WoW since the early retail days, and the infrastructure already exists. Even if Classic doesn’t use premium services like transmog, offering a paid one-time transfer fits perfectly within the established business model. Many players who spent hundreds of hours on their Anniversary characters would happily pay a small fee—say $15–25—to preserve their effort. The value proposition is simple: pay once to keep your character forever rather than lose it when the event ends. Multiply that across tens or hundreds of thousands of players, and it becomes a highly profitable, low-development-cost service.

You are right I am opposed to MoS because it stacks with WCB and undermines horde and makes already easy bosses even more silly easy.

If you want QoL wow play MoP or retail.

anniversary and era are entirely separate game modes… are they leaving money on the table by not allowing retail characters to transfer to era too? lol :expressionless:

Allowing transfers from Classic to Retail would be silly because the two versions are completely different games—Retail characters are built around modern systems like item scaling, talents, transmog, achievements, and expansions that don’t exist in Classic. Classic characters would have outdated gear, missing abilities, and incompatible data structures, making a transfer technically messy and pointless. It would also undermine the identity of both games: Classic is about old-school progression and community, while Retail is about modern systems and accessibility. Mixing the two would break immersion, balance, and player expectations in both directions.

How hypocritical of you to talk about the “copium” of others while you’re out here at this late date still crying to bring a SoD feature into Era. You can’t make that up.

Most Era players want Era to simply stop being disrupted by other game modes or version changes.

This means the obvious recognition that MoS is not a vanilla feature, and that anniversary is not Era.

You seem to be in favor of changing and disrupting Era’s current state, so unsurprisingly many players are opposed to this.
