Why should there be? Is it because YOU want it? Shouldn’t there be bad luck protection with real life random things too, if you are intellectually honest, that is.
But that’s the thing, this won’t play out like that at all. More than likely these items will be like the Bow. If you are lucky and get it, great watch your dps soar, if not so lucky hit these forums up about how craptastic it feels to have your class suck.
Make it drop at the same rate as other raid loot? That might lessen the problem but doesn’t negate it entirely as some people are still going to have bad rng and still not see it drop.
Make it be able to be acquired through the catalyst? What should the prerequisite weapon be?
Not make unique items like that anymore? It’s interesting having weapons not just be stat sticks all the time.
I got super lucky with some of the rare drops this season. I don’t expect the same luck next season. I do think rares should be rare, but also players need some sort of bad luck protection to ensure that people actively seeking those rare drops can get them before the end of the season.
My solution would be something similar in concept to Dinars. Absolutely keep the items rare drops and keep them powerful, because it is fun to loot a powerful item. What we want to prevent is the not fun aspect of trying week after week and never seeing it and then oops the season is over. So what I’d like to see is a system that puts a maximum on the amount of time you have to wait before you can guarantee the item.
Make a sort of currency that you get from completing raids which you can use to purchase specific items from that raid (from bosses you’ve killed before). I’d even say make it take a long time to get enough currency to get the truly powerful items. Blizzard has tended in this direction every time we’ve had uniquely powerful items that relied on random chance to loot. They did it with Legendaries in Legion, they did it with Azerite armor in BFA and they did it again with tier sets with the catalyst.
Where I’m coming from is that scale matters. A lot. And you’re consistently ignoring the scale by saying it’s just like every other item with a random drop chance. It is not due to the scaling of both the power and the rarity.
This is way to true, people think bis is the only gear that has any value. I knew a player that would get base mythic gear and then only farm for bis if he didn’t get it he wouldn’t even take ilvl upgrades because it wasn’t bis… min-maxing has gotten worse. Even after wrath they said they where going to limit it by removing hit and pen
Not that I don’t believe you, but I’m going to ask you for specifics at this point. Blizzard seems to feel that this is a brand new feature so you’ll need to demonstrate to me what exactly is so new about it if it’s been commonplace in every raid before.
