Blizzard needs to revaluate class design, especially Mage

Blizzard, back in the day DPS classes were able to do damage very easily. Now it’s become this insane, complex rotation and there’s nothing fun about it.

Back in the day, CD’s provided you with a 10% damage increase. A majority of your damage came from casting regular spells. Now if we don’t use our CD’s its a 50% damage loss.

This absolutely sucks because when you pop CD’s and something happens where you have to stop damage to the boss you lose a ton of DPS and run the risk of getting booted from the raid.

This is not fun and it’s a real reason why many people play classic versions of the game or refuse to play retail. Nobody wants to spend hours watching videos and practicing their rotation. They just want to play the game.

I feel as though this new wow has drifted very far from the original idea of wow and what made it so much fun. You’re appealing to the 1% of hard core players.

It’s just bad game design. Please try to remember the things that made this game fun and go back to your roots.

None of the people that I know that never played the game even want to attempt it because they think its too complex, and it really is. Sure that’s part of its mystery. But give people the choice between complex and easy playstyles.

The funny part is Arcane was way harder and got streamlined. Frost, you literally just press what lights up, track shatters, and glacial spike at 5 icicles. And Fire is actually extremely straightforward to play… it’s just designed poorly for many reasons discussed about in other threads here recently, so I don’t feel like repeating myself.

If OP wants to play a class that relies very little on cooldowns, they should genuinely play Warlock. Still a spellcaster, but seems to be the playstyle they’re looking for.

I can agree with some of what you’re saying. Unlike some other DPS classes/specs, mage is very complicated to learn. We might be the class that causes more new players to give up than any other. I love my mage, but I’ve seen how wildly we’ve changed since Vanilla. I don’t miss the days of spamming Frostbolt, but I think the class has been overdesigned over time. I love how mobile I can be as Spellslinger Arcane or Frostfire Frost, but I often wish our rotational spells would deal more damage outside of cooldowns, especially when I try to play the janky mess that is Fire.

my only gripe with fire is the ping issue. Needs to be less punishing in this regard somehow, it really sucks to know that even if I like fire I am better off not playing it because high latency kills your damage.
