Blizzard is dead, and Activision murdered it

Just watched the Steve Jobs video.

And following the subreddits, it reminded me of my own job.

I work for company X offering a service that is not unique. Said company is not even 10 years old in a 40 year old market.

Said company had multiple competitors until those competitors failed due to fraud and greed. Said company hired its OG team with an attitude of employees are the emphasis who in turn made an amazing product.

Said company became a monopoly in two areas, and after several years. Now, this company only cares about selling the product at the expense of its employees giving no incentives, no respect, and only that the product is sold. Quality control is a joke. All that matters is the sale and the CYA part.

Most of the OG people are gone, shifts go unfilled, employees who do come to work are expected to take up the slack. Supplies and maintenance are few and only at meets functionality level. This includes equipment that is outdated and it puts the employees job at risk from outside supervising bodies.

Mind you, said company makes a ton of profit, but expenses are leaner. Leaner to the point that it is substandard as stated. The company has preyed upon the altruistic nature of its pool of applicants, but they want to be paid…and it’s to the point that the money we get paid for a job that is performed by lateral skilled professionals, who are paid 3x, is grossly below any standard of living.

One could say it is my fault for remaining and remembering better times. I now now why successful people pull out of bad cancerous relationships. They see the spirit is gone and it’s replaced by soulless greed. They divorce themselves from what they love because it is toxic now.

I remain at my job because I love my work and I have had a supremely hard finding lateral work. With no competition, it is drive 2 hours to have a slightly better job. Call me a masochist, but like with WoW, all I can do is hope for management to change or get out of this business completely.
