This sadly is the solution thats way too obvious for Blizzard. Frankly out of all the trash they’ve done to classes in the last 6 years the GCD change is the one that bothers me the least.
yep. personal preference.
But then, Im not a hardcore raider nor do I like the suck crap PvP in this game. PvP should never be a thing in a game where you build up individual character power. Its just asking for balancing problems.
No. If I wanted to play an MMO that functions on an xbox controller I’d go play one of the 15 well supported options I have for that mind numbing level of combat.
Wow’s addon community and the customizability of its macros and LUA interface are actually one its core strengths over its competitors, as little as that might occur to most people.
ok…but isnt that what macros do for the most part? Take 2+ abilities and cram them onto a single nintendo controller button?
Macros seems to have been a driving issue in the Whine Factor about the GCD since Ive been in here reading about it this whole time.
Maybe they should do away with macros entirely. Make us put everything on an individual key/button, then see if we want more abilities or not…
My worldvein essence lines up nicely with my vendetta, thanks to cooldown reducers. It would be nice if I could just macro the two together for a single button push, instead of /castsequence or [mod] scripts.
Pushing two different buttons(or the same button twice) is not game breaking for me, but it feels silly having the two on separate globals. Like I can macro my trinkets to fire with my vendetta, but an essence that works like a trinket is a no go?
Remember, this change was so profoundly, egregiously stupid it originally appeared in one of the April 1st Fake Patch Notes gags. Unlike Diablo Immortal, putting everything on the GCD literally was an out of season April Fools joke. This was a screamingly awful idea that doesn’t come close to justification.
… Just leave it in place for PvP if it’s important enough. Otherwise it ruins the flow of the game for the entire rest of WoW. With all the extra buttons many of us will have in Shadowlands, it’ll just make the problem that much worse.
They better revert these GCD changes. The only people that prefer the current GCD system are people that are incapable of thinking or reacting to literally anything and people that have absolutely zero foresight.
Not really no. Macros allow you to craft your own buttons that do a variety of things, like:
Customizing your bind layout, especially with modifiers. I personally like to compress most of my buttons onto keys 1-6.
Putting /petfollow on the same bind as your freezing trap or wyvern sting.
Misdirecting to your friendly focus, when that was a thing.
Preventing a cast or ability from interrupting a channel
Splitting offensive targeting in pvp. Frequently it used to be best to @focus the enemy healer, so I had many buttons that would CC/interrupt my focustarget if I had one, but allow me to continue damaging my main target only so as not to break friendly sleeps.
Forcing usage of pet spells. Pets arent smart, so when you want to intelligently use one of their abilities you have to cast it manually, via a macro.
Setting raid targets quickly and easily
Predetermining targets. I used to have one for MoP arenas that would instantly target a priests Psyfiend and interrupt it.
Conditional usage of abilities, Used to have one for druid healing that would immediately cancel my form and and Wild Charge my @focus, ie for situations where I’m being trained.
Cant forget /assist for target switching.
Cast sequence is conditionally useful for things like combining a Scattershot into a freezing trap.
Had a bunch of mouseover macros for healing, because not all content is supported by raid frames. With mouseover macros I could heal friendlies that were on my frames and ones that werent, super easily without risking mistargetting for a second. All without once dropping my offensive target so I can keep doing damage.
Then there’s the macro I have that acts like tab targetting if I’m not mousing over an enemy, but targets the enemy if I am mousing over one, and never ever targets a friendly. Thats super ergonomic.
Then theres the /finds, the macro that tracks quest completion, the macro that combines /stopattack with /petfollow, armor set macros
At one point I had to install an addon called macrobank, because the game didnt have enough macro slots for all my specs.
Stacking a bunch of off GCD damage buffs is like the least interesting or innovative way to use macros.
There’s 0 way that I trust Blizzard to actually manage to make my gameplay experience as well formatted and streamlined as I can make it myself. Most improvements to the UI Blizzard has come up with have just been copying popular addons several years behind the curve.
Without macros etcetera, with controller level play, I pretty much only have as many tools in my toolbox as I have fingers. With macros and a LUA based UI I could conceivably effectively use a class with 100 different abilities, and I would enjoy doing so.
Kinda agree with others tho that I have never been a fan of macros. I mean yet it makes your gameplay more efficient…but it’s taking the gameplay out of the players hands and into a computer.
Which is also why I’m not a fan of using add-ons like DBM which tell you exactly what to do in a fight.
I hope so, having so many abilities that need to be used before I can get to my DPS rotation sucks.
DPS abilities on GCD is ok
Anything else on the GCD is not ok.
