This. This right here. This is why even if gear was completely equalized - a true non-factor - the hapless self-proclaimed casuals would still get romped by bullies in the kiddie pool.
And if not for the changes coming in Midnight, the next boogeyman would just be addons.
In PvP, recording your gameplay can only get you so far, as PvP is an ever changing ecosystem. One fight might be up to skill, the next you cant see anything to do different to change the outcome because the other guy was just more powerful.
My argument is, I just do not want to sit there and think “Was I good, was I overpowered, or my opponent underpowered?”
I want to win or lose by my own merits. I did not hit this ability when I should have, I interuptted his ability at the right time etc.
I genuinely think the hardest part of PVP for casuals is getting used to getting wrecked by someone better.
Tell Tide and Joker, that Annah says hello. (assuming they’re still with the BG Ratz)
Wow Is an everchanging ecosystem. You learn patterns, and get a general idea how things work.
there is 100% a different feeling between getting killed because of your gear, and getting killed because someone is better than you, and i havent felt like i’ve died because of gear in a long time (in instanced pvp)
This is probably not the answer you want, but if you’re losing instanced pvp its always because of your skill. Acknowledging that is a huge part of becoming a better player, in any of the game modes.
It means a lot once you get to the point on the ladder where people are geared. All the arena forums talk about is class balance, not gear.
If it’s not gear, it’s addons. If it’s not addons, it’s class balance. If it’s not class balance, then they’re win-trading. If they’re not win-trading, they just don’t like the game (and that’s fine).
And again, I get hung up on that, because one, ‘geared’ people are in all brackets, and two, there shouldnt be any kind of ‘geared’ point in pvp.
If I go into Halo Infinite right now, after not playing since S1, it would take me all of 2 bot games and 1 regular BtB match to get into the flow of it, and start taking out people just like I did in Trial, 2, 3, 4, Reach, and 5. You cannot do that in any MMO game.
You don’t have to.
You can talk to a NPC and you will never wear your crafted gear.
You don’t have to constantly hide them.
You hide them once.
And they go away whenever you get in combat.
I craft PvP gear since the beginning of expansion. Gear that this season was scaling up to 723 before turbo boost.
Weapons
Rings
Shields
Armor
What.
Mythic+ is one of the game pillars.
Crafting doesn’t require Mythic+.
PvPers craft a lot items without having to set a foot on Mythic+.
In MoP gear had PvP power… And PvP resilience.
that is an actual item that would lock you out of doing PvE content because it was dogcrap.
Just how?
You have built the whole premise of your post by yapping about Mythic + and crafting without a single, not a single fact. You made clerical mistakes either on purpose or by being completely ignorant about PvP!!!
You’re blaming Blizzard for the wrong reasons: You’re making claims about incorrect facts and then suffering by absolutely no reason other than being ignorant.
Maybe instead of making a huge post like this, why don’t you ask?
I actually have no idea why wow hasn’t just taken (another) note from GW2: PvP gear is virtually free and it causes 0 problems for any other game modes.
gearing for PvP in wow isn’t difficult, it’s just a boring time sink. at least in PvE gearing up is a process where you’re doing content that’s relevant to your ilvl. so at like 680 you’re doing normal raid or keys 0-5. PvP isn’t like this at all since you’re playing with either honor gear or crafted stuff off the AH, which puts you wayyyy below people in full conquest.
just get rid of the gear climb for PvP and open the game mode up for more people. probably would have to fix the MMR system too, but wow’s PvP scene is seriously dying and desperately needs new blood
i enjoy most aspects of the game, grinding pvp gear is one of those. (which is why i argued in favor of it in this very thread.)
I’ve seen two posts so far of you calling an aspect of the game people are enjoying boring. It might be time to take a break if you’re not enjoying the game, as opposed to seeking out change for the way the game works.
Que for wintergrasp. kill 10 mobs - get 250 conquest
Join crate farm groups get 36 crates to get to 2500 conquest
Buy weapons and full gear with conquest and bloody tokens you got aside jewelry
Buy green trinkets
que for a bg, win it, get 9 crafting tools
craft 2 rings and 1 necklace with it for pvp with embellishments on it
buy 3 bloodstones and buy socket slot from 5k honor you will have after all of that
put in bloodstone socket into it
enchant your gear
you are ready for pvp in 6h on any char with full gear and full tierset if you choose to modify it
if I didn’t enjoy playing the game then I wouldn’t play it. although I usually play with a few irl friends, which makes it a much better experience to me. and yeah, gameplay loops can be cool, I agree. but current the state of PvP gearing is just silly. people keep confusing some of us not liking the system to it being a long grind. no, it’s just that the process feels arbitrary for a mode that is supposed to be more reflective of player skill. if people just want to clobber fresh 80s in low gear then just say that; it’s good brainless fun and I have done a lot of it myself.
weirdly enough, we are already closer now than ever to removing gear from PvP. the whole item level upscaling in PvP is basically the step before this
The process is the game though. There is no aspect of wow that is not gear progression.
From the second you make a character you’re seeking upgrades. Its not arbitrary its the whole point.
If you’re in bgs or arenas with 0 pvp gear thats an active decision you’ve made. There is no reason to do that to yourself.
if you’re in greens in bgs because you started late, yeah its not the best, but its 100% doable.
All upscaling does is make pvp gear better at pvp than pve gear, because otherwise pve’ers would always dominate the format with their legendaries and other silly pve nonsense.
There has always been PVP specific gear aimed towards being better in PVP than PVE gear, that isnt really showing we’re close to ditching PVP gear as a concept.
You think that going to a npc and clicking one button, one time per character ever is having to micromanage your character?
Also, many MMO players are not into the whole “grand cosmic champion, savior of the universe” bit. They just want to be grounded adventurers or yes crafters in a fantasy world. Many people enjoy being miners or fisherman.
