Eh idk I’ve just been doing BGs and using AH gear (which I did buy a token for to get the gold) which doesn’t have any gem slots. Not sure which vendors sells gem slot gear.
I’ll definitely concede it plays a heavy enough role, yeah. I’d have to personally experience the content just without gemmed twinks (or something similar) to determine it’s solely the case, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did turn out to be.
Shattrath - PVE vendor. , Area 52 - PVP vendor
Org has the Gem vendor in Hall.
These pieces can be viable to 90 or so.
Yeah, just take care which merchant you talk to. They sell every season’s sets for that expansion (except Elites of course), so don’t just buy off the first vendor you click on. Be sure it’s the latest season for that expansion. I mention this because my fiancé actually wound up doing that one time. It was funny.
So what about levels below this? And aren’t we boasting about heirlooms being available until level 120?
Crafted Gear is really strong within the lower levels.
There was also a reworking for BOE items, which has massively increased the drop rates. They also drop in x1, x6, x9 variants for ease of use.
The x6 versions of Green BFA BOEs are on Par with x9 Heirloom stats.
Or just add gems to heirlooms, problems solved in these threads literally.
I gotta hit the hay. Thanks for bringing that up, Juga! I’ll check back in tomorrow when I get things relatively settled.
Have a gn.
I honestly hadn’t even thought of adding sockets to heirlooms, but I’d be fully down with that. I really like gems and sockets.
Only issue I can see is widening the gap between actual new players (as uncommon as they are) and heirloom users.
Adding gems to heirlooms would just decrease the overall TTK in low level PvP. I don’t think that’s a good thing. I’d rather see gem effectiveness decreased in low level PvP.
You’re right. TTK is already really low there, so it’d probably do more harm than good. I hadn’t thought of that either.
This is true too.
I can’t remember the last time I saw someone that wasn’t in heirlooms =/
And yeah, I agree gem slots would help fill the gap ( no matter how small it is in the majority of the brackets… ) between people in heirlooms and twinks, but would definitely just turn it into the new problem discouraging actual new players.
I disagree with this. At max level we only have until the end of the season to gear, then it’s on to the next round of Mythic+ (let’s not kid ourselves, this is the best PVP gear), Arenas, RBGs, and BGs to gear. That’s approximately three months’ time. I’m not going to kid myself, since I don’t set foot in dungeons and only do random BGs for Conquest, I’m the prime example of the 120 equivalent of “leveler”; whereas the folks running Arenas, RBGs, and Mythic dungeons are the “twinks” inasmuch as they’re actively searching for their BiS gear. At 120, we just called this “well geared”, but the premise is the same. HOWEVER, and it’s a big however; we basically get a full reset every time a new season starts. XP locked players in brackets below 120 don’t have to deal with that.
I actually have an eternity to gear up on my 19 and 29, which is one of the best features of xpoff for me. I don’t have to constantly run the treadmill to be even remotely relevant. When I’m doing the leveling thing, yes, I’ve only got a few days or so to gear up and then it’s off to the next bracket. Then again, I’ve got full standard heirlooms (unenchanted when leveling) so I get decent XP and level into and out of brackets fairly quickly.
I’d like to offer a suggestion that may help some folks with their leveling process and participating in BGs while leveling. Don’t open any reward boxes until you hit x9 since the rewards scale. That’s right, you’ll get x9 leveled gear to give you a little boost in the next bracket and/or zone. Also, once you hit x9, shut your xp off for however long it takes to get a bag or two full of reward boxes, open them, pick the best gear, and turn your xp back on for the next leveling push. That’s worked very well for me and makes the whole leveling process: quests, dungeons, and BGs a bit more enjoyable.

Ven
They could always just tone down gems (keep it for wargames) in instanced pvp.
Yar. It helped the brackets a lot when they removed set bonuses awhile back too, hurt my timewalking set though
Sorry, took me awhile to find it. It is from may 19, 2013 in the 80-89 bracket. And as you can see hunters were fairly OP in that bracket and out hunter who was top ally for every damage and top damage was able to get 1.6 million damage. The ele shaman 12.7m damage. Effectively making him worth 7.93 players. very unfair, and 76 killing blows, just spamming chain lightning all game. https://imgur.com/Oaixu6H
Again sorry it took so long and my estimations were off, but this was taken in 2013 so don’t blame me too hard. Still relevant to the conversation on 1 twink ruining a bg for 40 players.
Edit: Sorry it was sorted by killing blows, there was another horde player that had 2m damage, so he counted for 6x a normal player in damage.
According to the forums, PvP was perfection in 2013 since twinks were in a separate queue.
2013 MOP “Separated” bracket era, Experience On?
Did this player do something wrong?
