Blizz should take Classic and Run with it

Run away from retail and start something hopeful.

Rewrite the whole story. Change events, change allegiances, change races acquired, (keep Paladin on Alliance bwahaha), change it all.

Let’s not and say we did.

Yes please. No Blood Elves on horde, no ally shamans or horde paladins. Old areas (like the Vanilla Uldum gate & the weird instance portals in Desolace) could be fleshed out. All on separate servers from “normal” Classic, of course.

Their have been a few posts and videos about unreleased content in vanilla.
Such as Uldum in taneris, Hyjal, the naga capital, the Emerald dream.
I would love to see them take the RuneScape path and separate classic and retail, by building out on classics unreleased content.

Mine doesn’t exist without the OP.

retail can be good drop esports and m+.make the world the focus again along with better class and pvp design and retail will be great.

if you stay down this esport route the game will continue to go down hill.

#NOCHANGES

Go back to retail. Bye.

You know what future i want? Stagnant phase 6 servers forever and some fresh servers released yearly. This is what tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people want from classic and there is nothing wrong with wanting that.
#nochanges

This would be a great route as well, but still falls in line with what i meant as them taking it in a new direction.

You’re right, parasites can’t live without a host.

I think that’s what the big issue is. It’s been highly directed to the competitive aspect and even then it’s suffering. If I had to compare Classic to Retail, Retail just seems… ‘loud’.

So what you want is a dedicated entity without any added or adjusted content.

To this I say, why not both? Take the direction of Classic and move it forward, once it leaps forward to ‘new content’, separate the two and make the new content ‘Retail’ and keep Classic, Classic.

Is it ironic that Classic itself was a change? Yeesh.

“I guess you’re right… I thought I did, but actually… could you like… I mean… just make these few changes… just a few-- nothing too crazy. I know this wasn’t part of the deal, but I miss [insert QoL that exist on retail].” -2019 Forum Poster

Stop asking for stuff. The only thing I want to see is layering eventually removed, and the rest of the phases released. I’ll play this game forever, without any of the proposed changes you guys came up with.

I guess perhaps people are fearful that Classic would go away.

Here’s a mock example:

Classic: → Introduces Classic content revised (no different than Classic up until BC)

Expansion: Becomes ‘Retail’

Classic: Remains Classic with all Classic content added.

Cool story.

THIS. I’m in the exact same boat on this regard. I’ll play Classic long after Phase 6 is done, and then when Classic:TBC comes out, I’ll swap to that, but this doesn’t mean I’m going to abandon Classic entirely. There’s nothing wrong with having options and swapping back and forth when the mood strikes. Same goes for Wrath if it comes out also. Keep them all separate and we will have content enough to play for a LONG time. No need for Classic+ AT ALL

I wouldn’t mind classic+ at all but many people are very against it so it would be hard to pull off without many people quitting. This is because people believe that any changes to classic will be botched and in the end ruin the capsule that is classic. The success of classic+ is a gamble which I don’t think blizzard has the melons to take.

On the flip side I wouldn’t mind if they did the total opposite. Leave classic server in a permanent time capsule state like many want and take abandoning retail to heart and abandon their old ways (a gaming repentance if you will) and finally give the player the classic experience we were asking for in the current retail that we once loved

So that you can find another reason to complain about it? Not that it will deter me, but you guys are all the same.

Yea I get it, lots coming in with the same/similar message. Which means there’s a decent amount of dialogue about those particular ideas, some even the same.

But guys like you only serve yourself. You come to a forum to limit discussion rather than add to it. We post on the forum to welcome others thoughts on the idea and likely hope it’s expanded upon. Will Blizzard do that? Maybe, maybe not.

The way I see it is this. If Classic was by the will of the players then this means two things for you:

  1. Our suggestions may become significant enough that Blizz acts upon it, and therefore a majority of players want those changes. (which means you’re in the minority)

  2. Blizzard doesn’t act upon the changes because likely it’s not enough push for it or they just outright won’t do it. (which means nothing changes and you have nothing to worry about)

Either way, why don’t you do more than try to be part of the 2nd problem by trying to discourage people from talking about something that intrigues them with possibilities.

The only thing I can think of is right now, 15 years is a long time to dilute vision and direction, I would dare say it changed several times over those years.

If the heads at Blizz all got on the same page and set a direction that made sense with a consistent and good story, then this would be an opportunity to do it. Experience does dictate reason to be pessimistic, but we’re not posting to be pessimistic, we’re posting to hope that some suggestions are heard.

Yes!! Give us a whole alternate timeline but keep the spirit of classic in the game.
They got retail. Judging from the guild I am currently in it is still quite popular.
Hopefully Classic is big enough that they can do something exciting with it and still keep it “classic”

I love discussion. I’m not even against the concept of Classic+ if handled properly.

Here’s your original post. Please quote yourself and tell me where you gave any actionable ideas on what can be done. The only thing you were actually specific about was keeping one thing exactly the same.

If you have ideas, put them up to begin with instead of some vague post stating basically that “Blizzard should change stuff”.

And who exactly do you think is going to be able to do this? The developers who created the “spirit of classic” have not worked for Blizzard for many years.

The developers who introduced World Quests, Artifact Power, War Mode, Pet battles, “you get an Ashbringer, and YOU get an Ashbringer, everyone gets an Ashbringer!”, Diablo 3 style RNG drops and abilities, and 36 different kinds of elves are who remain.

So if you get a Classic+, it’s probably not going to be in the “spirit of classic” that you’re thinking…

Agreed…classic+ is the best long term option for the game.
