I don’t find it extremely alt friendly but I am going to guess that is because I pretty much hate most of the content. They put in so so many extra systems in this expansion your alts have to do. I miss a simpler game when you just did professions and get gear.
Popularity isn’t what I"m talking about and something tells me you knew what i meant just felt like being combative
when it comes to innovation in the game space. Bringing in new features, or trying to create new gaming ideas, Blizzard was revolutionary in WoW, especially up through Cata. Afterwards, They fell back on themselves and have been almost entirely repeating themselves and waiting to see what others are doing in the market. Things like Torghast for example or the new drake flying mechanics are good, but they are not new, unique or something blizzard themselves thought up.
What player subscriptions relate to that I don’t know.
it is much better now.
Just finished another alt’s grind through to the end of the ZM campaign.
I’ve done an alt on each patch this expansion. in 9.0. and 9.1 it was outright Alt-hostile. The grind for example in 9.1 for cyphers was so pathetic (especially since it was RNG based) that you could not consistently play alts through it since the time to get there varied so greatly between character play throughs.
9.0 extreme aenemic anima also meant that trying to put alts through a different covenant to experience it was painful if you were trying to do both your main and an alt.
this isn’t the worst I’ve seen alt support. 9.0 sort of made sense since it was the expansion launch and they were already time gating us with renown anyways on our main.
Threads of fates initial release was also alt-hostile and was taking 15-20% longer to level than through the quests. Which defeats the purpose of a “catch up” for alts if it’s longer and punishing trying to go faster. I believe this has been nerfed though since in 9.2 I was able to level an alt 50-60 in 7 hours of playtime. (with some idle breaks)
9.2 has been the best this expansion. And it’s fairly easy to do now; I got my new alt to ilvl 245 in 2 week lockouts doing ZM only. (not a single Mythic dungeon or raid above LFR)
You will get plenty of noise from the white knighters who want you to grind 100s of hours on every alt.
hmmm who seems to be the combative one?
reminder balance of power is STILL not account wide. WHY NOT?
Because if you do go ahead and re-read the interviews from Ion recently about this supposed “we are trying to make things account wide” you will realize it is so chock-full of holes and side cases that you should probably go reconsider your expectations lest you be disappointed.
They said items would not be account wide, so you still may be doing quests more than once. If you do get rep shared, you may even find that they aren’t tying many items but cosmetics to it now, since they said they liked the Covenant renown but did not like tying it to required power. They also said they’re not really going to redo all the legacy reputation grinds in place, so no salvation there.
I’d be very reluctant to hold your position in this case. This is the WoW team. Have they come out and exceeded everyone’s expectations about making the game less grindy in the last couple years? If you don’t think ZM was their best pass yet at being alt friendly then I think you’re going to be disappointed again.
Do you really trust them though? They have been claiming alt friendly for 2 expansions now and never deliver or when they do they never go all the way. Just take a look at this patch for example,Font of Ephemeral Power and the Decanter of Untapped potential are not account bound and require regrinding rep on every alt.
I bet they sneak something in dragon flight that is more of the same. They literally can’t help themselves.
That and $2 might buy you a coffee.
Except it’s not really? You could 100% leave all the cosmetics and stuff rep locked to each individual character.
However when I have to do the rep grind a second time to move my belt because the leggos will then mess with my tier. It’s idiotic.
Same with the doing the story multiple times in general. Like it’s the exact same (mostly terrible) story as the last time I did it. Everytime I think about doing it again I log off lol… I get bored of my main I log off.
People would still have to log in and play the game on their alts to get gear and ilvl. I just think it’s idiotic to make people do the WORST content more than once. Let people jump right into what they enjoy. If they enjoy those rep grinds they can still do it. Just don’t make the rest of us do it.
Which is why the other paragraph in my post mentioned things like MoP rep tokens should come back. You’re not required to grind everything out again, but you are required to choose which alt gets blessed next, and while it’s very low cost it’s not completely free.
They don’t play their own game. Add on top of it that they don’t listen to early feedback and you have this system upon system upon system crap.
When it appears as though the lead dev only logs on every once in a while to get an M+ carry, there’s not much of a chance that they would understand the issue with alts and all of the other aspects of the game.
Except when actual power is locked behind it it’s not okay. Even with rep tokens.
Skip the rep tokens, leave everything as is EXCEPT remove the power locks behind rep. Then if you want an alt to have the cosmetic, you can chose to do the rep grind again.
The grind for unity leggo is actually destroying my will to play this game. That and the garbage story line. Seriously bad stuff.
This is gonna be a long patch. If I’m bored of my main but am going to be even more bored doing boring stuff I already did, what do you think I’m gonna do? What do you think most people will do? Wows already kinda on life support and this is why.
True OP, Blizzard should sell max level boost where you already have all the required rep, necessary in-game currency and latest available max level gear.
if they allow any of this, you won’t be moving forward. You will already be at the finish line
I disagree, for power increases specifically it’s most important that the player make a choice, even if it’s by something quick and trivial as a one-token-to-exalted supertoken that’s purchased with gold so there’s no grinding beyond getting that first character to exalted.
Then you’re fundamentally destroying the sub base of this game.
How is it not making a choice by chosing what character you do the extremely lengthy exalted rep grind on? That’s a huge commitment. Revered itself is destroying me.
So again. If I already have KSM on my healer main. Now I’m thinking about tanking. Only I HAVE to do the story again and if I want to increase my ability to tank I HAVE to get revered. The most boring drivel out there.
So again I ask you, why in the heck would I do that unfun process that I ALREADY DID ONCE MORE THAN I WANTED TO IN THE FIRST PLACE… and not just unsub?
Maybe just have a x 10 button and whatever you do once is just automatically given to 10 other characters of your choosing. That way you never actually have to even play them.
I mean the token purchase threshold doesn’t have to be exalted, it could be at revered or whatever tier the relevant power increases sit at. Or maybe it could be available at revered but dramatically cheaper at exalted. There’s plenty of options here.
And I don’t agree that the greater playerbase plays keeps more than a couple of alts up to speed with endgame, and thus would get little benefit out of the account metacharacter stuff being pushed for in this thread. If you’re trying to keep a fleet of mains maintained you’re probably pretty niche.
Also more story skips, which it seems that you’re wanting as much or more than account unlocks, would be perfectly fine. Abundant story skips didn’t make sense when questing was less mindnumbingly linear and there were things like rep tabards available, but with modern McQuesting skips are essential.
they think being alt-friendly would be bad on the time-related metrics but who knows…
maybe ppl would actually play more if the alts didnt feel like a chore (that youve already done previously).
I definitely would. Starting in late Cata my experience of wow became twnking at 70, leveling alt after alt after alt, swapping faction and doing it on the other side. That got me from expansion to expansion with constant play.
Now? I play until the tedious stuff takes it’s toll and then I go away for 6 months to a year. I left during prepatch and returned 3 months ago. With just 1 alt(current), I’m burnt.
