Be that as it may, people would still accuse them of lying. How many times have they said over the past few years that they would do better? How many of those times have people actually felt they have done better?
The backlash would have been the same regardless.
edit: I am not saying that they shouldn’t have said something more/different, but at the same time I can also see “why bother, they are gonna freak regardless”.

The only way we’d get a statement with any integrity from the executive team at blizzard was if they reduced a convent of nuns running an orphanage into a drinkable pulp and consumed it with the hope of having 15 minutes of integrity and decency.

thanks for the lies… That’s why he rolled back protections for trans students, thats why he tried to cut health care for lgbt individuals, thats why he proposed rolling back same sex marriage. There is no greater offense than contradictory the national myth; China and the US have national myths which cannot be reconciled. They can tolerate one another, for as long as they feel that they’re gaining something, but there will never be a true reconciliation.
Ideological concerns aside, the US and China are geopolitical rivals, each vying to increase their influence over the world at large, and little, petty disputes like Jenkin’s ear quickly escalate to open warfare because it provides a vague justification for crushing one’s geopolitical rival. China, as a rising power, seeks to unseat the global hegemony that the US has worked so hard to achieve. Similarly, the US as global hegemon, cannot tolerate a China which does not further its own agenda. Remember that China was initially courted by the US in an effort to weaken the USSR led communist bloc.
The best case scenario isn’t going to entail world leaders suddenly coming to the conclusion that peace is the best option for themselves and their citizens. Rather, the best case scenario is the outside bet. It is the sudden change in the scope and context of the conflict between world powers. The discovery of the New World did a lot to keep the powers of France, Spain, and England from razing each other’s capitols. Similarly, a concerted push into the development of extraterrestrial resources could alter the context of conflict between the US and its rivals. Conflict would continue to take place, but the worst violence would be taking place somewhere far away from civilization.

Having obtained a degree in psychology, I hate when people misuse “-phobe/phobia”. If you’ve ever met someone with a legit phobia (whether it’s of dogs, heights, or whatever), then you know what I mean. A true phobic will FREAK out when confronted with the object of their phobia. The physical sensation of fear overrides rationality, as they begin to have a panic attack.
This is a distinctly different phenomena from what is being alluded to when people use terms like “transphobe.” I’ve met plenty of people who dislike, repudiate, or outright hate transpersons, but I’ve yet to meet a single person who experiences a panic attack when presented with a transperson. “-phobe/phobia” is a specific medical terminology that shouldn’t be misused. Musing “-phobe/phobia” creates a false equivalency with people who suffer from genuine phobias.
If you want to say that a person is bigoted against Y, then say “I assert that you are bigoted against Y!” There’s no need to abuse medical language, and thereby marginalize people who suffer from phobias.
