Blizz, Hong Kong, Freedom of speech, lets have an Adult discussion

Shame Trolls aren’t alliance then, it would of made your image fit for forums

hugs :meat_on_bone:

0/10.

Maybe next time.

Hey at least im still dapper

I don’t think Blizzard realizes that some of their audience consists of logical, reasonable, intelligent adults.

Trying to fool the public with that is as smart as releasing Diablo Immortal to the American audience.

Which said that he was banned for “putting the company in “”“Disrepute””" "

Uh huh… And a slogan that opposes China’s Human Rights violations is “disreputable” to Blizzard… Why?

Ah yes. Because China doesn’t like it and Blizzard stands with China and their policies because they make up less than 10% of their revenue but have a rapidly growing game economy.

Blizzard giving Blitzchung his money back and lowering his ban seems to run opposite to the narrative that this decision was to appease China in some way, as the change conflicts with what the Chinese government would want them to do.

So even if their statement is a lie, and they were bowing to China, the revision means they’re now unbowing to China.

As I’ve said elsewhere, the idea that this had nothing to do with their good relations with China is laughable. Does anyone believe if this were turned around, and a US player made a comment about a US social issue such as Black Lives Matter that they would have acted similarly?

What’s more, this statement of theirs stands in direct opposition to their earlier “apology,” which was to China. There they promised to always defend China.

The thing is for me, I’d have infinitely more respect for Blizzard if they had just owned up to it and said “Look, whether we like it or not, as a company we cannot the financial repercussions of crossing the PRC’s leadership. We’re doing what’s best for our product.” I wouldn’t like it, and I’d probably point towards companies like IBM in the 30’s and 40’s capitulating to another murderous regime. But I’d at least understand it.

But to spin a lie and hope that reduced punishments for those involved on a Friday while hoping for a fresh news cycle Monday? Not good enough. Just own your actions Blizzard.

If they wanted me to really believe that China had no influence, they would explain why they made the statement that said they defended the honor and integrity of China.
Then they would apologize for it and retract it.
But they won’t because they can’t.

They was technically Netease making that statement, not Blizzard Entertainment as a company. Netease is there publishing partner over in China, whether Blizzard told them to make that statement or not is unknown. It’s an official Blizzard account, but Netease runs it.

So Netease has control over Blizzard’s official Weibo account? Seems like a bad way to run your company.

From the article I’m reading, that’s seems to be the way. Article makes it sounds Netease were the ones personally publishing the statement and not Blizzard themselves.

Yeah looking into a few articles, its a shared account. Seems like a pretty terrible business strategy to let someone else control your public messaging and thus public image.

If Blizzard loves the Chinese government so much why don’t they just move there and abandon the western market entirely. Just please go over there and have nothing more to do with us. So sick of this two faced facade of a company. Executives making deals with each other while the devs and gamers get screwed.

I agree.

I take umbrage with Blizzard using words like “disrepute” and “divisive”. That choice of words clearly shows they side with China rather than remaining neutral.

At least they gave him his winnings. He did play and win fairly.

But Blizzard’s response was just awful and contradictory.

Then Blizzard is shooting themselves in the foot big time by not clearing that up. Whether it was they who said that or not, it’s already the widespread public assumption that they did, and it’s a completely reasonable one too.

Welcome to the PR nightmare.

There is no profitable escape.

Enjoy your stay Blizzard.

ANY political opinion is divisive. I’m sure he could said “impeach donald trump!” and I guarantee you the reaction would have been similar. 100%.
