Blizz, Hong Kong, Freedom of speech, lets have an Adult discussion

While this is true, and I honestly can’t blame them for acting as they did - even if the method in which they dealt with the people involved was a little too heavy-handed for my liking - China’s a gigantic market, a fussy market, and one that any corporation seeking to make a profit would be a little silly to ignore.

On a moral level, however, part of me wishes we could stand up to the CCP a little more, rather than fall hard onto our knee the moment there’s even the slightest upset - they’re profiting from this exchange, too, and it really is a two-way street.

Passing on your civil responsibilities under the cover of lazy rationalizations and nihilism.

You think thrall would have raised the horde with such pathetic behavior?

If all ‘civil responsibilities’ are to you is not playing a videogame, that’s fine. I’m going to speak with my vote.

The only way any of this is going to change is major regulation and reform. Blizzard aren’t the only ones doing this, they’re just the most terrible at hiding it, at the moment.

A fine point but your $ is your real vote.

I was never in love with Blizzard, they were just a company I gave money to so I could play the video games they made.

Lionizing corporations like this is freaking weird. They’re not your friend, your family, or your lover. They’re a company. Gross dude, get a room.

I agree with you.

Whether or not we agree with the situation in that country is another matter entirely.

To be fair, I’m not the same person I was when I fell in love with Diablo 1 all those years ago either…

Almost every corporation I could give my big fat $ to are in bed with China in some way or another. Do you propose I just never spend another cent ever again, and sit in an empty grey room staring at the corner until I turn to dust?

No, that’s silly.

Wat??? NO, …lol!

I want to see Blizz cut off WoW to millions of players to respect Hong Kong sovereignty as a respectable political and pr move (Activation actually means it!) to the American/European/South American players (who understand this issue from PoV of video games).

Forget the politics. Even ignoring the whole situation, they keep doubling down on mechanics that are often hated by the community. 9.0 or bust.

I couldnt give two monkey squats about China or its problems. I have my own life to live.
But I agree that Blizzard of the 1990s is dead and buried.
They dont care about making a game for ME anymore, but making it for the investors instead. busy work to keep me playing instead of interesting, compelling content that I might actually enjoy.

Activision USED to be a good company. I still own a bunch of Activision branded games from way back when sitting up on the shelf here behind my PC.
Somewhere down the road the mighty $$$ became their ONLY reason for existing.

What millions of players?

If I remember correctly, China’s market has a few million,… subscribed to WoW.

Or at least enough people to create an angry mob if Activation wanted to respect Hong Kong sovereignty,

Regardless…listen to OP please. Lets have two angry masses happen at once.

This was a funny read
Don’t conflate the issue at present with what the gamer was trying to be an advocate for

This is a very popular reply to the situation. The truth is that owning an iphone made in china is not dictating western values at all.

So you would honestly want all of the Chinese people to lose access to the game that they enjoy equally as much as we do? Wow… how big of you. They aren’t part of this problem. They are already repressed and you want to make it worse for them.
