Blizz, Hong Kong, Freedom of speech, lets have an Adult discussion

Yup I think that’s pretty common :stuck_out_tongue: I left the game for handfuls of months during WoD and Legion, a few during MoP too. Eventually came back when I had time and wasn’t so bored with it anymore after one or two major patch contents.

Didn’t feel the need to announce it, do I still get pats? /sarcasm lol

No, not at all. Active Chinese and Korean players outnumbered NA/EU players waaaaaaaaaaaay before MoP was even in planning mode. Blizzard already had the Chinese market.

If you’re going to make stuff like this up, you shouldn’t be here.

That’s funny right thar lol.

Apply your response to your own replies then.

And MoP was intentionally catered to the Chinese market.

Nope, don’t care two craps about hk. What I do care about is blizzard going to bat for China.

Yea I don’t know what kind of person you are but if you don’t care about those… Holy.

No I see his point. He’s stating that we in the West tend to be a lot more vocal about things, a vocal outrage. However about 90% of it falls short of reaching significance because all everyone is doing is being vocal about it for some short amount of time. It’s the same thing that applies to hot topic items like this. Not the store :stuck_out_tongue: But just something that is “trending”.

Eventually this too will fade away in time, just like those mentioned topics (or even lack thereof mention)

edit: the statement of things fading away does not equal a statement of not caring. It’s easy to mistake the fact that things DO fade away into time (whether or not forgotten) means that someone doesn’t care. No, it just means that it’s no longer being talked about OR better efforts are being applied elsewhere. As it is, my own statement too will fade into time and most if not all of these replies on this topic will too. The only thing that will really matter is whether or not you actually did something in support of the HK protesters, or you did something about those school shootings, or you protested in support of some thing.

Exactly. All of this is, to borrow from the Bard, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

We see it every time something happens. A wave of outrage, and then it dies away. Rarely does it actually linger enough for it to make an actual difference. I give it two weeks, and something new will have everyone’s attention.

Maybe on the forums but it’s bound to show up in surprise or not surprise by Blizzcon, this much I will say lol

Thank you for a considered and well put together post.

I would like to add to your post the glaring hypocrisy of the virtual outrage mob being that they are boycotting Blizzard but continue to either have, use or purchase goods, clothing and components from China.

If the virtual signalling outrage mob thinks it is so moral and correct compared to everyone else then surely they will purge their own selves and households of any made in China items or products with made in China components.

My opinion on the whole matter is that people are outraged that a capitalist company based in a capitalist society acts in a capitalist manner to protect and maximize its profits.

If the outrage mob is so convinced of their moral convictions then why can I not take a permanent marker and use their belongings to write whatever political or religious dogma that I deem correct all over their property? They demand that Blizzard gives up its rights to determine how its platform and space is to be used so why does that not apply to themselves?

I consider the demands put onto Blizzard by activists the same as if they were in fact their own despotic regime ruling over others, they have become what they claim to hate. They wish to punish what does not agree with them.

I have another interesting scenario for the protesters, if you wish to hurt China then support Blizzard, Blizzard is drawing money from China in the form of profits therefore you would surely want Blizzard to be amazingly successful and pull as much money out of China as possible.

Therefore to boycott Blizzard and yet continue to purchase China made goods is pouring more money into China while taking less out - it would seem that is the opposite effect of what the virtual signalling outrage mob would want.

In the end a gaming platform is just that, a game, not a place for extreme views or political activism to make demands on others that are using the service for entertainment purposes only.

I play WOW to remove myself from politics and other real world events for an hour or so, it is a world where politics and evils are replaced by dragons and fairies and magical things harking from my child’s eye and for a brief moment in my mind I can fly.

We truly have entered a time where tearing down what is good is deemed the antidote to what is bad.

Walmart is a great example of not doing anything, blizzard is a horrible example and should learn from walmart.

Perhaps. But I wouldn’t be surprised if there are fewer public Q&A sessions getting broadcast live on this Blizzcon. And intentionally disrupting the con can have legal consequences that I’m not sure people here are willing to risk.

And, frankly, all of this outrage will disappear if they announce the release date of Phase 2 in Classic, the next WoW expansion, Overwatch 2, and Diablo 4 all in that weekend.

Like, remember how upset people were back when the earnings call came back with the news of record profits and then they laid off like 10% of their work force? People swore off Blizzard, but they came back when Classic released. Why? Because Blizzard is a game company, not a political leader.

People are up in arms about EA and loot boxes, but it isn’t like they haven’t been doing that for years. It was only when they did it to a Star Wars game that anyone cared.

So many people PERMANENTLY deleted their Blizz accounts that they made up some bogus reasons for not letting them do it.

Yeah, lots aren’t coming back.

BLIZZARD killed wow, via a dumb PR move. There was no “wow killer” - management killed their own game.

Its 8 am on California, so where is this protest that suppose to happen?

Just waking up, Seattle here, what protest?

The reason why our society is having an outcry about Hong Kong to begin with is because our media does not tell the truth about Hong Kong.

Almost all western media have a unified narrative, which is Hong Kong protesters are peaceful and fighting for their freedom. This biased propaganda has literally brainwashed everyone to think that way.

Unfortunately this is a far cry from what the reality is in Hong Kong, if you refer to my original post, the protesters are by no means peaceful, their extreme violence is now borderline terrorism. This is supported by many videos which you can find online.

The so called fighting for the freedom is an over exaggeration. The only thing which could potentially have infringed on freedom was the extradition bill, which has now been withdrawn.

The protester’s actions and opinions are by no means the public opinion of all of Hong Kong, many people here are disgusted by their violent behaviour, the only reason the protest still has momentum is because our media is trying to glorify them as heroes.

What’s left now of the original righteous protest is nothing but a bunch of radical teenagers that won’t let go of the moments of international fame they received.
They are not only committing mass arson, destroying all public properties, they are beating up innocent bystanders and anyone that does not agree with them or gets in their way.

This is not the way to achieve democracy, this is not about fighting for freedom anymore.

China Shills all over.

I see /Blizzard on reddit finally gave up and it is full of memes. There is a nice (expletive)blizzard sub as well. This isn’t blowing over anytime soon, no matter how many PR chumps and china bots try to clean it up.

And? Deleting the account doesn’t mean they won’t be back. It just means they’ll have to purchase a 120 boost or go through leveling again.

No kidding holy crap, i never knew theyd existed here. It as if they dont think we get to see the whole picture and how the Cops in HK stepped on the protestors every step of the way. From hiring the triads, shooting blue paint at them to dissapear them later, to shooting them. Relentless beatings in the stations. WTH!

Comrade, you must work harder for your social credit.
