Blizz, Hong Kong, Freedom of speech, lets have an Adult discussion

Do we call it the Hong Kong protest megathread?

I believe if you exercise more perception and less wishful thinking, you’ll very quickly see that that was, rather, beginning of story.

Let’s compromise then. Would you agree that having a system more like the Nordic model in the US would be better? You said you oppose free college and healthcare, but that’s the system they have there, a heavy focus on social welfare programs like that but still capitalism.

So, financial suicide then?

That’s really a dumb idea

Unfortunately it’s probably way too late for that.

That’s like saying Microsoft should go back to working in Bill Gates’ garage.

A company’s behavior is dictated by the drivers at its helm. The drivers of today are not the drivers of yesterday. You are attempting to rehabilitate a brand name, but you are presuming that the people currently under that brand are the same people that you remember. They are not.

This is like the TellTale resurrection scenario. The brand is coming back, but those people aren’t TellTale.

That’s not how it works. Not to mention we are talking an absolutely massive amount of cash for it to even be considered.

Given their current market cap of about 43 billion dollars (for the entire company) even splitting Blizz alone off would probably require at least 12-15 billion (and probably quite a bit more).

That would be a lot of couches to go through for spare change.

“Massive amount of cash”

Probably not as much cash soon, based on the PR disaster they self-inflicted. That’s assuming they don’t get get “executive ordered” and legislated into the ground from American politicians who see an opportunity to score some points.

Just a horrible horrible business decision by someone at Blizzard to bow down to the Chinese. What’s happening is exactly what anyone with any knowledge of American politics would expect.

One of the few things that might bring some Americans together.

Splitting the company might be one of the few things that might save it.

Oh my sweet summer child…

What’s up, Poo bear?

It is so far beyond way too late for that. Folks just keep trying to deny it.

In case you all haven’t noticed. Blizz already has chinese style censorship on their forums. That ship has sailed. I took a 6 month break this year because they silenced me for comments that would be acceptable in a church. They want a piece of the chinese market so they will do what they have to.

So… in this hypothetical situation where the heads of Blizzard pull a Lord British and buy their own company, what do you do if you don’t like their product?

I mean, in the current state of the game, if you just stop playing at least in theory that will impact their revenues and shareholders will be displeased. But if there’s one Lord High Executioner of All Blizzard and they disagree with you, you’re pretty much just gonna have to lump it. No matter how much you might idolize the game’s “golden age”, that doesn’t mean the people who would be making decisions in this scenario agree with you.

Well at least OP has proven to not understand how what they want actually works.

It’s cute people actually think there are big Companies that value anything over profit… something very ‘‘hippy-summer-child’’ about the way some people on here are thinking with regards to Blizzard, Capitalism, Business, and their naive outlook on morality and ethics.

They haven’t been private since 94 when they were acquired by Davidson & Associates

I have a feeling some of the people posting about wanting them to go back to being privately held were probably still in grade school in 94.

NO WAY. The dev team already thinks this is their game. Having a public company allows everyone to tell the devs this is NOT their game, but the shareholders game.
