So are Minecraft, League of Legends and Team Fortress 2, enjoyed by young people.
Other than that, I agree.

Yeah, but everything remotely focused on in the xpac itself has no healthy future in the setting, because almost 20 years of lore for them was smashed and replaced by lore that was never even meant to have depth or meaning. Even from the standards of running a game like WoW, thatâs doomed to fail: wow, as we see in DF, currently depends on retcons to even make anything happen.
Excellent point. But itâs honestly moot, because Blizzard will never retcon Shadowlands.
Itâs part of the lore now. People need to accept that, the good and the bad. We can only hope that they learn from it and take the story in a better direction, which they already seem to be doing.
Besides, retconning Shadowlands means no Sire DenathriusâŚ
And we must all stan for Sire Denathrius!
Producing a comic series is one thing. Have a team of talented artists and writers and you have what you need.
Producing an MMORPG open world expansion is quite another. That requires a bit more investment in time and money.
ButâŚwho knows? Maybe someday Blizzard will decide to go back and do a complete reboot for WoW starting from scratch.
It would honestly be better if they made Warcraft 4 IMO.
They might retcon bits and pieces here and there as needed as future content is developed. Thatâs kind of been how they do things, for better or worse.
To expect them to just completely axe the entire expansion because people are mad about it? Thatâs not going to happen.
No. It was awful. On every perspective. It ruined the Horde in all senses. The only group that hat a good outcome out of it was the alliance since they now occupy alot of former Horde lands. Not to mention alot of leaders got killed.
Shadowlands was solid and cleaned up the story from Warcraft 3. I loved the nostalgia when we met older characters. And the Jailer was a real threat unlike the Primalists.
If FF14 had to have a whole universe reset cuz the narrative was a trainwreck beyond repair, WoW is not above such an option
WoW is hemorrhaging players. Partly due to gameplay systems, partly due to the narrative.
As Iâve said previously, the gameplay right now is great. If they repeat the same narrative mistakes while the gameplay is great and the game continues to hemorrhage players, then they need to get off their damn high horse
Square Enix didnât retcon the story from FFXIV 1.0. They redesigned the game from the ground up when they did Realm Reborn, but the story continued on.
The transition from Shadowlands to Dragonflight was largely the same thing. Blizzard dropped a lot of the crap elements that players hated from SL gameplay, covenants and conduits being prime examples. Having to potentially pick a covenant that you didnât want because it was the meta choice for your class and spec wasnât exactly well received.
Have they changed any of the unpopular story elements from Shadowlands? No.
Should they? Maybe, but thatâs entirely up to them. I honestly wouldnât hold my breath if I were you.
Not even close to being a valid comparison.
FF14 1.0 was so bad that Square Enix refused to charge subscriptions for it. It was an extremely horrible game, from the ground up, everything from the classes, to the gameplay, to the story, the entire thing was a trashfire.
Actually no, wait, thatâs insulting to trashfires.
The âresetâ wasnât done just because of the story being bad and people being upset about it. They had to rebuild the entire game, and to give it some continuity they created the narrative of the original universe being destroyed.
Thatâs not even close to whatâs happening with WoW.
Ugh.
I am as sure as I can be that they wonât retcon Shadowlands.
I absolutely believe that retconning Shadowlands solves nothing without retconning BfA as well (and Iâm just as sure they also wonât do that).
And I kind of wish they would. Though I imagine we couldnât even remotely find a consensus on how weâd rather it played out.
But as much as I love the idea (conceptually) of writing all of that away - there must be an exception made for Daddy D.
That said, everyone can expect to see bits and pieces of the lore of Shadowlands slowly erode. It happens to every old expansion. So if youâre hoping for something minor changing from it, hey just give it a few more years and you might get it.
But it will still have happened and be lore - theyâll just throw in some additional details or unreliable narrator.
We just need to accept that it happened and move on.
Did parts of the Shadowlands narrative suck? Absolutely. Is it worth continuing to get upset about? No. Is Blizzard going to retcon it and by extension BFA as well which led up to Shadowlands? Absolutely not.
The sooner people accept that, the better.
Not really, like wow, lol is the king of pc mobas but it is past its prime too, not alot of younger ppl are playing it like 5 years ago.
Yeah be a free to play game can help yes but give it another decade like wow and weâll see.
Minecraft is on a league of its own.
