Bliz just confirmed flying will not require rep

You do realize that May 22, 2015, is roughly 6 months into a 24 month expansion, right? 10 million subs were listed when WoD launched. When Q1 2015 came out, we were at 7.1 million. When Q2 was posted we had 5.6 million.

This seems consistent, actually. That’s a loss of vaguely 2 million, and then a lossof slightly less than 2 million. WoD was losing subs from the outset, there’s no reason to belief flying had any meaningful impact given the reported losses at each interval, and the staring numbers.

In fact if you completely remove flying from the equation, Q1 > Q2 looks about accurate in terms of continued losses.

I don’t need to rewrite history. Just look at it.

Edit:

To be clear, assuming we follow trends and math, the vast majority of losses occurred prior to the announcement.

You cant have it all…

If you’ve been keeping up with your renown, it’ll be no biggie. Keeping ypur renown topped up requires, at most a hour a week.

Is there any other game out there that makes you regrind something like this every expansion? Like seriously. Just stop forcing people to regrind something they already have.

If you dont want people using flying at the beginning of an expansion just pick a patch and give the option back to every one at a certain time.

It really is not rocket science.

There’s no rep to grind because they found a better way to milk subs during the process with renown timegating.

I have a feeling it’ll be an achievement that when unlocked, you 'll be able to fly in the other zones except maw of course.

Seems though as if alts will get the crummy end of the stick w/ how renown is central to unlock flying.

Well, they might not call it “milking”…

And the issue might be “exploring on the ground” rather than “time spent on your sub”…

But you’re basically correct. They don’t want anyone doing all the stuff in SL by flying.

They said that months ago.

Once again show where they have actually said flying will not be account bound . I want actual quotes and links posted that I can actually check and verify. Other then that this all just speculation . Because I did not hear the words " Flying is open per toon"

I’ll throw out some speculation in Blizzard fashion…

Blizz - You unlock flying with renown. There will be no rep grinds.
Players - woot yay this will be easy for once!

Blizz real implementation - you unlock flying only on the content you have max renown with. If you are venthyr you can fly in revendreth. If you want to unlock it all then you need to have an alt with max renown at each covenant or changed through all the covenants and gained max renown with each. BTW once 9.1 comes out there will be no need to be anywhere except the maw where you can’t fly. If you have enough rep with Venari then you can use ground mounts.

Lol flying could require something like renown 80, using the same system they already have in place with 2 ranks per week. Hopefully not but until they actually reveal anything it’s really up in the air.

Yes after I wrote that I had the same thought but didnt feel like editing it in lol.

Sure, but they left in far greater numbers after the no-flying announcement. It’s not a “narrative”. The (old) forums had never seen such carnage, such bile and vitriol and so many “I’m done” posts, friends who’ve been subscribed since 2005 immediately unsubscribed, well known community figures quit the game and have never come back, and so on.

Blizzard back peddled on the idea within DAYS. That’s how bad it was. Stubborn Blizzard, having spent the best part of a year deciding how best to break the news, wound it all back within days with Ion saying “feedback matters” because of the subscriber carnage.

Sure, WoD was terrible anyway, but the no-flying announcement triggered the biggest player revolt the game has ever seen.

No matter which way you try to spin it, reaching max renown NOW on alts is a grind, and you can bet real money that the grind continues in 9.1.

Unless you’re happy to mindlessly spam dungeons all day in the hope of getting renown catch-ups, you’re in for days and days of GRIND. On every alt.

Compare that to the pre-Pathfinder system of just paying a token amount of gold on every alt at level cap.

And there you go. GRIND. A pointless wall stopping your alts from flying until they jump through the assigned hoops.

Whether YOU think it’s “fine” isn’t really the thing, though. If this turns out to be true, I guarantee you that a vast number of players will NOT find it “fine”.

This exactly.

It’s the fact that they DIDN’T talk about it. In past expansions they’ve always specified Pathfinder would unlock flight account wide. This time the only thing they mentioned was mounts.

People quite rightly DO NOT TRUST Blizzard on the subject of flying. They’ve tried lying and obfuscating on the subject multiple times, complete with forum “spin” from staff (remember Bashiok’s infamous “I rode around in Outland then realised I’d forgotten I even had flying” forum post?!) and from players with suspicious motives (hell, the whole narrative that “flying is bad and Blizzard regrets ever adding it” arrived that way).

We simply cannot trust them on this subject. I’m sure if any of the fan sites had bothered to ask about it now during the dev interviews, they’d have been told “we’re still deciding what to do,” a la WoD.

Wait, did I miss something…

Flying really won’t be account wide?

It’s not a grind.

A grind is having to log on every single day to kill mobs over and over to get loot, or get anima (even though it’s optional) or reputation (if say you’re doing the unavowed rep grind in Revendreth). Doing a few callings, killing a raid boss, and basically doing activities you’d do normally and getting renown for them is not a grind.

the beginning of this thread did not age well

next time don’t jump on the doom and gloom hype train

So flying will require DOUBLE the renown we have at max now? so 80 renown?

they just dont want to spoon-feed it to you. /shrug

No, most likely they make sure it takes just over a month to get, so two months of subs. and each week there will be three possible, 40 souls, which we wont possible be able to use. 1000 anima, which usually takes me a couple hours and some linear quest chain which usually take 45 minutes.
