Blacksmithing - Mail & Weapons

Why is leather working bis for mail? I went blacksmithing on my vanilla shaman and crafted my very own annihilator, arcanite reaper, black grasp of the destroyer, sulfuron hammer, and nightfall…among other items.

So, I went blacksmithing on my level 25 shaman to prepare for level 40+ and even hoping for a good weapon to craft at level 25.

Is there a good reason why blacksmithing is being neglected for mail users and weapon swingers??

I do not want to switch to leather working then back to blacksmithing at a later date. Leather working makes leather gear imo (I know they make metal items too for some reason)…and blacksmithing makes metal items.

Because of Dragonscale Leatherworking.

And what about working with scales from creatures like turtles and dragons? Should that be blacksmithing too?

Sorry to say, but you simply made a bad judgement call. The benefits of Leatherworking and the armors clearly outweigh the few weapons you can craft from Blacksmithing while leveling.

The only Shamans that even wanted to do Blacksmithing was specifically Orcs for Axesmith specialization so they can get Annihilator/Nightfall, no other Shamans go BS and even Orcs don’t bother with it until 51+.

I understand there is leather working with mail. But, there is also blacksmithing with mail items too.

I wasn’t putting leatherworking down. I was asking why blacksmithing is being neglected. Besides, how many dragons are you killing for scales in leatherworking pre 50?

Tbh I would like to see melee mail be made by blacksmithing maybe even high strength stam pieces for shaman tank. But , unlikely.

I’m not really sure it is, it just… Never was really good for our class pre-50, not even for mail armor crafting. I’m not sure why you were under any impression that it would be. Maybe in the later phases once we actually have access to profession specializations sure, I can see them adding more choice weapon recipes for blacksmithing, but in the first two phases?

Hell, every weapon you mentioned of fondly crafting back on your vanilla toon is a 58-60 weapon.

Well… There are the whelplings.

But that’s besides the point, you should have seen this coming.
