I’ve been having this exact same issue with my 7900xtx for months. Manifested Timeways boss arena, as well as Yazma on high tyrannical keys have resulted in MULTIPLE crashes for me this season.
Can we get an update to confirm whether or not this is still being worked on? There are many threads regarding this issue here and on the EU forums. Switching to DX11 is a workaround, not a solution.

I just switched to a 7800 XT recently from a nvidea 1080.
I started noticing 3-5 min start times to launch WoW in which the app is unresponsive.
I also ran into “error #132” for the first time today after a black screen and wow crashed.
Other games seem to work without issue.

This happens to me in classic. Black screen. Discord shuts down. Happens within 5-10 minutes. New PC. Everything updated. 7800xt
Try checking the AMD support forums, you’ll see countless recent posts about crashing in a wide variety of games. It’s possible that maybe some of those threads will have more information or workarounds that might work for those crashing in WoW:
https://community.amd.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?q=crash&sort_by=-topicPostDate&collapse_discussion=true
On the second page of results, there was even a thread that stood out saying “When I start For Honor on Steam the game freezes ALWAYS after exactly 4 minutes and 30-40 seconds into the game” which sounds kind of similar to those here that are having timed crashes.
Maybe AMD did something weird with command queues or something on their driver end to mitigate security exploits, but who knows? I’d recommend you file bug reports with AMD about this issue. It’s in the Adrenalin options.

Happening to me in Classic Era and Classic WotLK.
Black screen but can still hear game sound. Discord crashes too for some reason. Everything updated. 7900xtx. Tried various graphics settings, tried uninstalling AMD software, driver remover, installing only driver. Always comes back.
Feels like we wont ever hear anything again about these issues.

OK I have tried a bunch of fixes none of which have worked.
I never upgraded to Windows 11, I am still on Windows 10.
I am also still using Legacy OPROM instead of UEFI (reason I did not upgrade).
I am curious to know if those of you getting Black screens in Manifested Timeways, Kurtalos, Smitespite and randomly in other parts of the game are using UEFI or Legacy. I am wondering if this is why some folk can “fix” the reported startup problem by switching to Direct 11 and some folk have the problem in game and Direct x 11/12 seems irrelevant.

I have the same issue with the same card. However, I noticed something that is not mentionned in the thread. When my computer freezes and I reboot, I noticed that my addons or configs changes do not apply.
So, for example, if I move chat windows around, or if I tweak ElvUI and whatnot, if it crashes, when I get back those changes are gone.
So I have two questions for you guys:
1- Can you say you also experienced what I mentioned above.
2- Did anyone try to play without any addons and had the issue anyways?
Addons save on exit. A crash prevents that.
Yea, I suspected as much. However the point still stands tho. It is anecdotal but I feel like I get crashes more often when I change various configurations.
Adding my name to those affected - using a Legion go on a second monitor and had the weird startup, but also more annoyingly, driver crash in a loop until I closed WoW.
In event viewer, I see for each loop that TabTip.exe crashed inside amdxx64.dll. Each loop takes about a minute, I get control back for a few seconds then it locks up, then a brief black screen and the loop restarts.
It’s hard to tell but it feels like this happens more often when I’m in combat but that could just be coincidence, and I’ve been in open world dragonlands each time (not in a raid or dungeon). Haven’t tried any workarounds yet. Haven’t seen this problem in any other games.

Like many others here, I also have this black screen AMD driver crash with my 5700XT.
Issues are strictly with WoW and no solution works. Have tried all that have already been mentioned. Occurs most frequently in DOTI, but also happens in other dungeons during busy phases.
Extremely frustrating issue. We need Blizzard to acknowledge this problem.

Bump, can confirm this is still a problem. Tested all of the above on a clean Win 11 pro build. 7900XTX on latest drivers.

Have reinstalled win10 with numerous fixes. None work in the long run.
same problem here, amd gpu 7900xt, blackscreen, still hearing some sound, my driver are up to date, did reset setting, repair game etc…

I posted my solution to this problem in another thread, I hope this helps someone, after having one of my characters die in Hardcore thanks to this bug with my 5800X3D and a 7900XTX pc:
I made a partition big enough to fit another WoW install on my Games SSD, and installed Nobara Linux onto it. I installed the battle.net client via Lutris and then installed WoW Classic from that.
I have not had one crash since this using this method for a month now. I know installing a whole new OS and dual booting with Windows is an extreme solution for some but hey, it works! I use WowUp for addon management and it works just fine.
I upgraded from Windows 10 and Legacy BIOS to Windows 11 Pro and UEFI. My biggest hotspot for crashed is the Manifested Timeways boss in Galakronds Fall. Did it on MythicPLus 13 and instead of many many crashes there was only one crash for the entire dungeon, but it kicked me completely out of the game and I had to reenter. Plus I got a new error message, that 3d acceleration failed to load.
So for me, moving to UEFI/Windows 11 has made the system much more stable, but the problem has not gone away. And it seems to me it is something to do with the cpu not getting a response from the GPU. I did not notice a change when I tried using Direct x11 instead of 12. But Direct X is concerned with cpu to gpu communication and 3d acceleration is part of Direct X. Not an IT person but I feel like something is emerging out of the mist.
Adrayla’s solution of shifting to Linus bypasses Direct X which is a Windows thing.
AMD Ryzen 7950X
AMD Radeon RX7900XTX
Was on DirectX 12 have now changed to DX11
And I have been playing hardcore so this BUG is not fun
PLEASE FIX!!!
