Black Lives Matter

The rates of violence by police are exceedingly low. Officers rarely have to use force much less lethal force.

well do you think a person who behaves in such a manner is exhibiting a healthy mental profile? see whats happening is, mental issues are being overlooked because it isnt politically expedient.

I don’t see anyone defending wife beaters or murderers. Get rid of the rotten apples. That seems like the right thing to do. Not abolishing all police.

By “exceedingly low” you mean “the highest in first world counties”?

not that easy. people are not rotten apples or human trash. people are complex organisms in various states of disrepair. it’d be better to just put more money into screening for mental health issues every so often. and not penalize someone if they’re malfunctioning. broken does not mean unrepairable. it may mean different job, but doesnt mean you’re human trash or rotten. no one deliberately makes themselves mentally ill.

is it still highest in first world countries after we play the per capita game we like to play?

Fine. Lets call their behavior rotten then. Lets find a way to rehabilitate them. But lets also not let them be cops while their behavior stinks. Seems like a fair compromise to me.

takes a certain amount of fearlessness to do that job. may come with the territory that eventually empathy may begin to suffer, like doctors and nurses are instructed to not get emotionally invested in terminally ill patients, because it would be too traumatic, but it eventually adds up and they end up on anti depressants

agreed. they screen military members returning from war, making sure they can merge back into society in a healthy way but police dont have an end date for the war they fight. it just ramps up and up.

i remember encountering a police officer off duty in a family restaurant, trying to sober up after drinking himself silly. he explained that he had just come from the scene of a horrible traffic accident, where a two year old had been decapitated, and it was just too much, as it was added to all the other horrors he had seen. you know people subjected to such things every day, have only 2 routes - self medicate or proper mental health regimen, otherwise they develop lack of empathy for survival purposes. policing is a vicious job.

Not too bad. How about you? All well?

The mods who allowed this to continue needs to be severely reprimanded, maybe even given the pink slip. This has no business here on these forums.

I am glad to hear that. I am not a fan of lockdown. A week or two is fine, more than a month seems like torture.

I get home from work half expecting to walk in on my wife strangling the kids.
