First, I would update the WoW graphics engine to use the same engine as SC2 and simply use that as a common tech base for all of Blizzard's RPG and RTS games (since they have similar technical requirements).
Second, I would force WoW story advancement through a different vecter than novels and comics that nobody reads.
I would use the updated engine and WoW's assets to make new RTS Warcraft installments and use them to advance the overall story in significant ways between expansions.
The major feature would be importing your WoW characters and choose one to be able to recruit in the campaign as a "faction champion" unit (you could change the character you import by starting a new campaign).
So, Ollin, this character...my first character ever and my first leveled in every expansion since vanilla...would be a hero in my WC4 campaign.
Buying the retail game would give permanent access to the single player game, and unlock multiplayer over battle.net as well as get you pets and mounts, etc, in other games.
However, the single player campaign would be available, for free, for anyone with a valid WoW sub who has bought the current expansion since it's primarily a story delivery device.
