Looking at rating in bgb, almost all the games are played between 1100 and 1800. Is the grouping system designed to stagnate progression? People on here like to waffle on about how BGB is free rating, and you get 2400 just for logging in, but looking at the rating distribution nothing is further from the truth.
I’ve noticed you will have a run of a few good games and then bam, the quality of teammates falls off a cliff. This is coming from a solo healers perspective. MMR doesn’t seem to play a roll in how they form groups. It’s more like they just try to make an average based on whats in the pool at the moment.
It seems like it’s purposefully designed to make you Ping-Pong back and forth.
Don’t mistake this for me saying mmr is fine, but people really overestimate the skill of the average player. Most players are going to be in that 1100-1800 range.
If you listened to some people here everyone is a 2.4k rated player. That’s just not the reality of it.
Yes you can get lucky in Blitz and get 2.4k without really having the skill to back it up, but that’s going to be the exception not the rule. Assuming they weren’t boosted of course.
However in a 8v8 match your individual skill will have less of an impact on your overall rating compared to something like a 3v3 or 5v5 match, especially with the way WoW’s battlegrounds are designed. This means your blitz rating will be a less accurate measurement of your overall skill compared to what it might be in other modes or other games.
I know what you’re saying. I’m referring to the way they group people based off of mmr. I think MMR is used as a way to average the group. I’m not talking 40-50 mmr difference. I’m talking 500 mmr difference. When I had a just shy of 2k mmr, I was getting plonked into lobbies with brand new 0 CR 1500mmr players, that looked and played like they had never set foot in a pvp environment before.
If you took my 2k mmr and their 1500 starting mmr, you’d have an average of 1750. It seems like, and again this is anecdotal, but it seems like they will do this to 2-3 players on a team at a time. So you will have 2-3 players with 2k, and 2-3 new players with 1500mmr, and then the rest will have that 1750ish mmr. While on the opposing team, it will be made up of an average of 1850-1900 mmr.
Almost every game I’ve played, my teams mmr has been atleast 100 below the opposing teams. And then I will be on a team that steamrolls, and notice the other team have got 2-3 players that are doing all the heavy lifting but it isn’t enough.
It’s like it’s designed that way.
This is till happening. I’ve had a few games where the opposing team has two very coordinated groups, and my team miraculosly has someone who is afk or dc’s. People still try to act like there aren’t boosters and sellers.
Also syncers. When every game has to pop 5-6 times and every time it hits 14/16 or 15/16 its fishy. Its never half away for 5, its ALWAYS 1 or 2.
My personal experience - I’m mostly doing solo shuffle (purely because blitz queue times are abysmally long) but rating climbs in blitz seem much faster than SS. This might be what people refer to? I’m guessing it does peter out at some point but I can definitely say that the 1700-1800 player in blitz is much worse than the 1700-1800 player in SS.
Blitz players have less situational awareness, pvp basics etc. Off the top of my head things like if you have a 2v1 at a node breaking cc on the 1 and sabotaging a potential cap, etc.
Big agree here. The amount of dps who have broken my rep when I’m in the middle of a cap is too high to count. FC’s who don’t pay attention to the opposing FC and just flounder around the map and miss multiple capping opportunities.
I just noticed a sharp drop off once my MMR got up to around 2k, I then got stuck in multiple rounds with just some of the worst players. And now I’m stuck just bouncing back and forth making no actual progress.
I just want to hit 1800 so I can get the OG PvP gear mogs. I managed on my shaman in 22 games. I just wish it would let me but the plate gear on my shaman.
There just isn’t a big enough player pool to have players in neat little catagories using mmr. 1100-1200 over here and 1600-1700 over there and 1900-2000k over there. Mmr is just a fake tool used and 1200 player ends up with an 1800 player because they just need a Que to pop.
Something to be said about the non rated pool and epic pool, heck even the Que synchers….they play the game in their terms. Rated players get screwed constantly by lack of participation numbers.
Losing streaks and clueless teammates are very normal in Blitz. Just focus on understanding how the maps work and your class’ role, keep queuing, and eventually you’ll hit a big win streak.
BTW it’s not always the case that lower rating brackets are easier. Sometimes you can get stuck at a certain rating, but once you push past it, you’ll find yourself climbing to 300+ above that rating with much less effort.
As for 2400, it’s def not free, the majority of players are below 2000.

Unfortunately this is an issue that’s ongoing even in higher MMR ( 2300-2500 range) . You ll have players that are fresh 1500-1700 who had few lucky wins and end up with players that has been grinding in 2300-2500 MMR range . Blitz MMR system is using the old RNG system ,it makes no sense in blitz . The only good players are in the 2600+ mmr range it seems . Anything below you can get a 1200 arena player that got lucky rng and ended up getting a few wins .
Unfortunately, even in 2900 or 3000 MMR games, you still sometimes run into lucky coin-flip players who never break 1800 CR. Blizzard’s try and error placement games have a lot of MMR fluctuation, so it’s normal for players to end up in brackets that are far higher than their actual level.
Sometimes they’ll cost you a win, and other times you win because the enemy team has them, it goes both ways.
Yeah, I thought it was odd that I was going up against a 2600 rated Pres evoker. His team walked ours, and it was rough. It was WSG and he just ran flags, no one knew what to do with him.
i qued for bg blitz in all greens, i was at 2400 in 3 wins, i had no buisness being at 2400 rating. proceeded to lose the next 18 straight games because people que for rated bgs then will not play objectives, no matter the rating.
its been a fantastic exprience. I genuinely thought bg blitz would be great for bgs, surely people would actually try to play objectives, work as a team, and win, because its rated. right?
surely it wont be a bunch of bots just 1v6ing as soon as their respawn pops, dpsing pets, and standing on roadways?
I know how you feel. Like I was saying, I had 5 straight wins and was in games with people with 2400 CR. I was in full greens. I’m sure when you first start, your mmr is used to bring higher team mmrs down. After a few wins, your mmr is then used to raise very low mmrs. So unless you get super lucky or are queuing with someone who can help offset the bad, your mmr takes a dive.
I got my 1800 for the old school plate set and am happy now, what happens happens with my rating. I’d be keen to even do unrated pvp but with the prevalence of queue syncing premades, being a stand alone healer in that environment doesn’t sound fun.
Most players are awful at the game especially PVP.
I am currently trying to get 1800 on warlock and I’m being held hostage back to 1630 atm.
People are clueless. They hate PVP because they are bad at it.
I love PVP despite being screwed over game after game. I can only make so many hero plays. Perfect example as a Destro warlock in a blitz I take LM by myself from arcane mage.
Then an arcane mage, fury warrior and holy priest come up.
Rest of my team? Nobody comes. Nobody thinks to check on one dude holding a base down by myself but even worse they can’t even keep the other nodes from 5 people as I go through two flag cycles soloing mage twice until killed by the three.
People do not open the maps and look. They have to be handheld like babies through each map. OK GO HERE, ok GO THERE.
The progression is me losing my sanity dealing with unbelievable and frightening way players are bad at the game.
Id say there are some things worth complaining about:
MMR can be too punishing if you stuck in a rut lower level.
Game has too many CD to track etc., Midnight fixing this.
Too many premade going on.
Otherwise 80 percent of the forum stuff etc. people are just bad at PVP .
Yeah that’s exactly how it is. I actually booked a Vaaction day from work on opening day of season. Got my elite set and said screw this I’m done! I think I’ll do the same next season because so many people queing on opening day it’s like taking candy from a baby. Give it a shot
