oh dude same. The reason I used to be a dwarf avatar but human race listing below it is because how often I race change this toon…but I do it to alts a lot too…esp when I’ve been drinking >.>
I have never bought an item.
A friend bought me the sparkly thingy once back when I mained spriest… oh poor Goldenbrown, forever benched since mop
I’m a surprisingly cynical person under my bubbly exterior.
Probably gonna play classic. Probably will resub when the new season started honestly.
Thanks friendo.
Yea man. This guy alone started as a Tauren in cata, went nelf in mop, then troll in mop, then back to nelf (then they released the 90 boost so I boosted a troll druid).
Also started on firetree, then to ravencrest with a rl friend (deadbeat dads best guild ever) and then to ED late mop when he stopped playing.
I don’t think I have any characters I’ve mained for any amount of time that are their original race and/or faction.
Before I got clean (or sober for the liquid folk) I’d wake up from heavy drinking/drug nights and my character would be changed.
I’ve had quite a few blizzard refunds on character services back when they were very friendly at cs.
Bultek (fro), Triggermike, and Goofin used to make fun of me for how often I faction/race changed.
Gah, it’s not like Goofin had much of leg to stand in there.
Speaking of that, I need to hit him up. Haven’t heard from him in a while.
I went nuts during a few of those “weekend sales”.
The moment of truth for me is when they released the fox mount, that boat that doesn’t float, the pig, and the meat wagon then also had that “bye for now” sale where they artificially created desire to get something before it’s “gone”. Like they used to do with Disney tapes. They’ll be back, just like the Disney tapes were.
All of that occurred in the span of like 3 months? Some of that crap I bought, until I was all of a sudden like “what the [redacted] am I doing?”
My experience with Goofin the last two expansions:
Queue up there’s with him as resto, lose a bunch of games. Realize two things - one, I hate healing, and two, the MMR is too ridiculous for me to play at.
Then I’ll see him again a year or so later and we queue some random bgs.
Nah, I’ve given a few away as holiday gifts myself. Probably would do so again, there’s not a lot of options.
for me it was the original sparkling pony mount. i remember sitting in queue to buy that mount when it was released, i saw it on MMO-C months before and everything ulduar was cool, so i bought it. then i logged in and saw that EVERYONE had it, which pretty much killed the mount for me. i’ve bought a few others, but anymore i just sit on my undercity plaguebat, i see no reason to spend anymore on mounts unless they release something awesomely gothy, but i doubt it will happen.
i’ve also stopped using character services, this toon has been every race but gnome, dwarf, and troll. i always end up back as a blood elf, so i figure the matter is settled for me.
Interestingly enough in 2017 Activison/Blizzard received former Disney Employee who would have had excellent experience with this phenomenon.
Tim Kilpin was with Disney 2000-2003.
Not sure if this correlates, but I do remember some dialogue being exchanged regarding the old “scarcity” techniques.
Probably. Everything’s rigged.

Hell yeah, we can be unique just like everyone else!

its less me wanting to be unique and more the realization that we all got conned. blizz made 25 million dollars in 3 hours that day for maybe 10 man hours of labor. i mean, the thing still has ridiculously bad animations and a flapping sound that does not do well with headphones.
mostly i would say i felt sheepish.
Yeah honestly if I could delete my store mounts I would. Except maybe the Meat Wagon. I legit want that game (again), and I’m not against getting collector’s editions (although I haven’t in a long time except for that).
I’m generally not opposed to cosmetic cash shop items regardless of the game’s payment model but the “get it before it’s gone” concept does seem pretty underhanded to me. The character services like name change don’t feel fairly priced either but I’m okay with a payment being needed for them.
I would’ve bought a mount but none of them look really interesting to me. I did go for the pirate ship but I knew I’d be playing for those six months with or without it so that was an easy choice.
Yeah that’s fair, as long as you do end up sticking it out. They basically paid you to take custody of a non-buoyant vessel. Still profit.
I guess the Devil’s Advocate side though is they probably timed that release when they did due to content droughts or whatever, and some people were duped into “being subbed” for a while after they quit.
it is underhanded, digital goods do not expire and there is unlimited supply. at least disney had an excuse with tapes that they only made so many(although they often made more than enough) anymore though my response to “get this movie for a limited time only” when it clearly has no reason for limited production is to just pirate it.
limited run keycaps im all over though, but they have a legit reason they are limited in production.
Jadei told me the other night he quit playing. Don’t know anything else about that like if coming back etc.
Also sad to see you go even if for a short time. I’ve been struggling myself with various things but I’m afraid if I were to leave I’d never come back. I’ve quit many things in my life and one thing I’ve never done is gone back to any of them. Even things that weren’t bad or very much regret leaving behind in the first place. I’ve actually lost sleep thinking about it. It doesn’t help that I’m unhappy with the overall state of the game. I’ve been forcing myself to play lately just so I don’t get the feeling that I’m leaving it behind. I need a shrink!
Man this place got grim very fast.
Just take a break. We all do. I was quit for years myself. BfA’s a wet turd in a lot of ways so far, I can’t imagine it getting any worse. Which means it likely will improve. 8.2 sounds interesting, at least. I’m not going to risk saying “OMG IT’LL BE AMAZING” but hey. You never know, could be more fun.
I quit regularly.
Hell, I just came back from a 4 months hiatus myself.
