BG forums lounge (Part 1)

Actually was supposed to be AV.

Yeah, AV is what I mean. Some weird thing about an Ally boycott? I dunno, a bunch of hubbub to me, but like I said last I read Ally were on strike, horde queues were ridiculous and they had made the first afk/bot sweep.

Playing that classic av to see 3 pvp deaths because of people being slow out of the caves and caught at the bottlenecks to then watch the bg end in 7 minutes really took the wind out of my sails.

Playing Classic definitely showed me where I got my twinking roots.

PVPing at max level was so… tedious. Nobody was playing for fun OR to win, but to gain the most honor.

Thats why I started twinking. Then BC came out and people started trying to win games because you got more marks of honor which you could purchase gear, and max level PVP was fun again.

Same here Sock.

Part of me really looks forward to Classic BC but on the other hand I have a bad feeling that the modern wow mindset will destroy it just like classic bgs.

Is that a reality?

Supposedly they are taking it through wrath.

Oooh.

So at least there will be arena come bc

Yep. Butttt looking at how the playerbase treated av and chased the meta with “I have to be horde for the pvp racials even if I have to sit 1 hour bg queues” it makes me have my doubts about the enjoyment of it.

This is why I want Classic but with changes.

BC without arena would be amazing BUT include the new groupfinder (Basically LFG but where you choose the members of your group and theres no auto-grouping and teleporting to the dungeon).

WOTLK with the class balances but without the groupfinder.

But why?

Even if it’s not your forte, it at least opens a more competitive option that might change some of the pvp pop.

Oh god, there will be blood elves…

It is my forte! I just think it was and always has been a blight upon PVP.

Battlegrounds should be the focus, but Arena is the focus since BC for PVP balance.

I hate competitive modes in games, I hate competitive people in games. So much toxicity comes from people finding out their “skill number” AKA MMR

Sidenote: I remember SL/SL+resto druid in 2s and never want to see it again.

Yea I don’t understand that one either lol. I like the competitiveness it brings and how 1 person is worth more weight in small scale pvp than a bg. Both are fun but I do tend to like the Roman gladiator open the doors and fight to death type pvp a little better.

at least no demon hunters lol.

Yeah I’m the complete opposite.

I love Team Fortress 2. I cannot stand Overwatch.

Small scale team stuff is just not for me. I like the hectic nature of larger scale skirmishes.

Agreed.

Loved that Pardo had the honesty to say arena was a mistake. For anyone that hasn’t read his words, “If I was going to pick on a game design thing that I look back on and think was a mistake? We really never designed WoW to be a competitive e-sports game”.

I agree again. Arena has caused continual trouble in class balance.

Edit:

YES!!! So much yes!! I refuse to play Overwatch, loved TF2. Scout/Demo for me.

Yet they’ve turn pve more and more into esports lol.

Thats all greed. Every publisher drools over esports because it brings money in, even if its at the expense of the current playerbase’s interests.

Yea those last toys they sold?

Took all their prize pool back and kept half the toy profit? I’m sure they made unreal money on it.

Yeeaaah, that toy thing was kinda gross. Literally made me sneer at the screen.

Makes me sad that this game went so corp. Granted, they were Vivendi before the Actiblizz occurred, but Vivendi sure seemed more hands off.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I feel like the balance issues are based on raids and pve and then we get the issues from that in pvp which then gets hotfixed… jk on that last part.

I do like bgs for the fact that pretty much any class / spec can perform in it, as well as the tricks that can be used for fun.

Arena is obviously different, but if rating isn’t a goal (ie arena or RBGs) regular battlegrounds are just fine for pretty much anything.

I like that I can hop on my meh geared druid (here I am) and try our feral, or go boomy like I’ve always done, without too much concern over being trained by walking dead or tsg, etc.

They’re are plenty of things in a bg that i can do to contribute besides raw damage and/or cc which - to me - is still there with or without arena existing at all.

I don’t think they could possibly balance around 10v10 anyway.

They’re raid balancing has always been atrocious, and trying to balance out cc and other things would be waaay out of wack if they were focussed on how anything affected 10+ players at a time.

I like that there are differences between the two (bgs and arena) that allow specs to perform better in one (or both). There are also transferable skills from both, ie juking, los, cc chains.

Just my 2 cents anyway.

And I’ll be taking my sht feral butt into bgs later to learn, while also contributing by hassling the healer in the back.
