If they really wanted to promote the MDI with dungeon design, you’d see more dungeons like freehold/junkyard. The linear nature of most of the SL dungeons makes creative pathing less important, so we’re less and less likely to see some BS like the sub 10 min Atal. It also lowers the chance that 1 team will win based on some crazy new tech.
Tbf tol dagor only went to the bottom of the list because blizzard forced 20 yard nameplate distance in classic (which then forced a 60 yard range in retail).
A change put in September 2019.
Mists of Tirna Scithe would like to say otherwise.
But for me, I haven’t enjoyed dungeons since Legion. They became more like a chore.
No, I think Legion’s dungeons were the best - in large part because they weren’t designed from inception to be go-go-go m+ runs.
I think Tazavesh is the best dungeon in shadowlands but Return to Karazhan is still the best “mega dungeon”.
What is a specific design feature from BFA or SL dungeons that you feel make them designed for “go go go” as opposed to Legion dungeons?
I only did a handful but I absolutely loved Waycrest Manor.
Linear design. BFA dungeons were designed with m+ in mind as well so you really have to run legion dungeons to tell the difference. During timewalking legion M+ was so much more enjoyable
I’ve run them all (Legion, BFA, SL) which is why it’s hard to understand what you’re talking about. Most dungeons have some options on which paths to take or pulls to make in all 3 expansions.
The only significant design difference I’ve noticed is Legion had multiple points where they had abilities hit so hard you quickly ran into 1 shots without a good defensive.
Nothing wrong with TD really, i got KSM in BFA
Eye beam pulling mobs through the walls, twilight dev pulling mobs from floors above. Heck, I managed to pull the last boss of the dungeon with a fury of elune cast somehow before we even got to Jes Howlis. The dungeon has a really cool theme, but the walls and floors being made of actual paper ruined it for me.
I have many fond memories of Underrot, Atal dazar, Freehold, Waycrest Manor, and Kings Rest. I think the only dungeon I’d say was “bad” was Tol Dagor due to the wall clipping issues but otherwise I think all the Bfa dungeons were really solid.
“guff” - haven’t heard that word since the 80s, lol.
You get a heart+1
I preferred Legion dungeons but BFA dungeons grew on me during 8.3. Shadowlands dungeons flat out suck imo when it comes to mythic+.
Yeah this was my experience as well.
Tol Dogar was just too buggy for the entire expansion.
The rest were pretty good though. I even liked Shrine of the Storm despite many viewing it as a dead key.
But I also liked Legion dungeons and like SL dungeons.
My guess, pre-mythic+ I didn’t run dungeons 100 times over, just a few times to get what I needed or help gear guildies.
It’s something about their design. Legion is where M+ started but the dungeons weren’t designed for them at first.
I do not remember disliking those ones.
No the dungeons were annoying and bad. There was only 1 good dungeon and that was the short one with helya.
BFA dungeons were some of my favorite thematically and I found them fun to play a lot. My favorite was operation mechagon and I was love shrine of storms. Motherloade was a pain but thematically pretty neat.
Also. Thematically waycrest manor was just amazing.
I played mostly resto shaman in mythic+.
I liked them except for the snake cavern one and Tol Dagor on Fort + sanguine weeks. Just absolutely terrible.
Most pugs failed the last bosses bullet mechanic on tol dagor. It was horrid. On top of that the cannons pretty much did us in most groups.
