I no longer have any motivation to play any alts. I used to love playing all my alts. In legion I had 6 alts I kept playing with. I did everything each week with them from farming old raids to doing mythic plus with friends. Now that the essence grind is out and it took so long on one character I have zero motivation to play the others. I hate going to mechagon and nazjatar also due to all the time locked grind needed to get the essences and flying in each zone. It’s pretty sad. Thanks you devs for bringing th most alt unfriendly patch to wow.
Original title included “ BFA Alt Unfriendliness is D3 Devs Finest Work”. I feel like I distracted too much from my main point by including D3 in there. Although I do believe many old schools D3 Devs that favored a lot of grinding in their earlier seasons are playing a role here it’s taking too much away from my main points. Which is actually kind of ridiculous when you think about it because Diablo 3 is extremely alt friendly.
Need to get an alt to 70? Easy power level, should take a few minutes with a partner and maybe less than a day without, thanks to all the equipment with bonus XP on it. You even get to use the paragon points your main has accumulated, and as any experienced Diablo 3 player knows, paragon points are literally free levels.
Don’t want to be stuck in Act 1? No worries, the entire game scales to your level, so go anywhere you want. All the waypoints are totally unlocked, so have at it!
Need gear fast? Shared stash, shared crating materials, shared profession NPCs, and oh look, Hope of Cain for fast and easy legendary equipment.
So yeah, the fact that I can put about 20 hours into a decently geared main then get a raw level one alt ready to raid GR45s in less than a single day in Diablo 3 probably means you’re pointing the blame at the wrong people here when it comes to the alt-unfriendliness of Mechagon and Naz’jatar.
I mean, I feel your pain, OP, because I’ve had to run the same scenarios like three times now, but yeah, you can’t pin this one on the D3 team.
You should check someone’s post history before making baseless claims. His complaint is essences being alt unfriendly which is completely false unless your bis is the raid one which is a little obnoxious. I have another alt i literally do nothing but herb/mine with and by doing the AP missions thru the app has a neck of 55. Difference between reality and maybe OP just tired of the grind.
I know. But the time locked essence grind is very stressful. If I play an alt I always want to at least play two specs. For this guy that would either be tank/resto/balance. Then I go ahead and look at blood mallet and see my best essences come from time locked methods. I lose all desire to do that maybe it will be different later if I choose to switch mains. But all I want to do is Mythic plus with guild members.
What gets me most about the grind is that it’s not rewarding. Sure it gives me a momentary increase in power but once the next expansion comes it’s all gone. Legion rewarded me with artifact weapon appearances for each character I worked on. That was amazing for me. I loved that because even though a lot of the grind was annoying I earned an everlasting memory of that grind through those appearances. Essences are all the grind without any of the reward.
So you’re upset that your alts have to use the normal-quality essence instead of the mythic-quality essence? Really?
Why not just admit the truth: you don’t want alts, you just want your main to be able to use whatever DPS spec is most OP without putting effort into multiple characters.
I would admit that if I also refused to do the AP grind, the gear grind, the benthic grind, the war resources grind, and every other grind imaginable in BFA. But the fact is I never refused those other grinds and my only gripe was with the time locked essences. So maybe you need to admit the truth that you are taking your own opinion on my character to attack me. Your ad hominem attack is a logical fallacy and you have nothing else to stand on except baseless rumors.
Yeah I agree the sting when essences go away is going to hurt more than artifacts because at least we got something cosmetic from it. Honestly unless you’re pushing keys the m+ essence suffices for most dps roles.
Check bloodmallet for the best summed dps essences. It’s usually the raid one (which is fine) the mechagon one, the PvP one and the nazjatar buddy system one. So all of the top 5 are time locked.
This means there needs to be a grind on each of them for the essences aside from the gear grind, raid grind, daily world quest grind, rep grind, AP grind, maybe islands grinding, etc.
The point is if I want to do decent dps there will be a big difference between taking my class with more of this time locked stuff done than taking another class that does not have it done and I will be a stress producer for my group instead of a stress reliever. I will be the dps with the lowest numbers by at least 10K and have issues completing keys in time with the group. Personally I do not like getting carried and prefer to give it all my skill to get the key done. But it’s no longer about skill is it? It’s about the essence grind first, items and AP second, then skills later.
Do a +7 this season and get the memebeam. Rank 3 which you’ll get thru more m+ over weeks only allows it castable while moving. You’ll get a powerful 2min AoE for one key and not be a carry.
