The wording I recall was that “The Beta was going to start out very small.” With special emphasis on “very small” and (body language) suggestions that they (Esfand and Tipsout) didn’t fully fathom just how small the devs were talking about at the time. Now we know.
As to the pool likely getting larger. Even Bornakk’s post said “for this phase of testing” in regards to invites slowing down to a stop.
We also have the beta invite itself:
you’ve been selected to participate in the beta test of World of Warcraft Classic !
Journey back to where it all began and take your first steps into our recreation of the original Azeroth, and help us test out World of Warcraft Classic before its official release.
For an overview of what’s available in the current phase of testing, head over to our beta forums. Additional content and features will be made available throughout the testing process as World of Warcraft Classic development continues.
You’re welcome to publicly share your experiences and adventures in the beta, so feel free to stream, record video, and post screenshots. Remember, your feedback will directly impact the quality of the final game—our developers are standing by!
Given the number of posts you are making on this forum and I can’t see any in the beta classic section I find it hard to believe you have access anyway.
Why aren’t you out testing instead of posting all day long on the forum.
Because trolling the forums was also part of my Classic Experience™.
Because I’m not in beta. I never said I was.
And my testing priorities are probably different from yours, anyway.
… what were we talking about then. I was talking about classic beta invites.
We were both talking about that, I think. I was just positing that I didn’t get one for X reasons, you replied good, I asked you why that was “good,” you gave me some gatekeepy reason that’s probably still somewhat valid…
I don’t know how the hell we got confused.
Well I am glad that is sorted. They really looked like they are rewarding long term players and that is okay by me.
It’s honestly okay by me too. Good on them.
I’m honestly split on whether I want beta or not… on the one hand I don’t want to get too attached to a temporary character. On the other, I don’t trust the current beta pool to look out for the things I’d probably catch within an hour of testing.
Like the Stormwind Keep bug I reported a few days ago after finding it on the stress test realm.
To paraphrase one of the most amazing forum replies I have ever seen about whipping a dead horse,
The horse isn’t just dead, at this point it is a fine paste!
(Credit to the person who thought of this, they are much funnier a person than I)

Oof. I’m eating pizza right now, please don’t make me lose my appetite…
I’m glad this has all slowed down. It did was i intended it to do. Get people to talk about it. Thanks everyone for your love, hate, and everything in between!
Crapaclysm
There is a certain catharsis to seeing someone else call it that.
How long have you been on these forums? I’ve been calling it that since I arrived here ages ago.
EDIT: Not meant to be read as hostile.
I “need” classic at this point.
I started calling it crapaclysm around about FL release when the novelty had worn off and I just wanted the old world back, the forums I have been on and off over the years, used to read signed out/ on my warrior years back.
Maybe first time on forums would have been about 2008 when I had no computer that could handle WoW but wanted any WoW related activity…
Ahhh.
Well, good to know something I thought was clever has actually been around for far longer.
And people complain about originality. XD
Free money? You realize you pay that money to play retail wow right? The money isn’t free, you are paying for a service that you are being provided. Beta invites are merely a bonus and nothing more.
Besides, you are complaining about not being able to play an incomplete version of a game you’ll be able to play in 90 days.
Odds are you weren’t going to get an invite anyways.
I thought it was clever too, turns out people around me at the time just thought I was being a cynical a$$hat.
Oh how wrong they were.
Truth be told, I think everyone was hyped for Cata until they realized what the true ramifications were.
The complete redesign of the old world and removal of all that content really hurt the game more than any gameplay changes could have, imo.
…Not that I’m not #NoChanges. I definitely am. I’m just saying.
