This usually works best for me, some tier sets look nice all on their own, but there are a lot of times where if you pick a theme (such as oh this shoulder looks really neat, let me make a set based off that, or this weapon) and make it around that, that can feel so much better.
While I love Legion tier mail and I’m probably going to farm them for Shaman as soon as I’m done remaking my old ED drae shaman from scratch, I have a fondness for some of the BC sets. I feel like part of the reason some of them aged somewhat okay might be that the two new races had mail wearers as one of their core iconic classes, so actually making them look good might have been a bigger deal.
The earthfury sets might be a bit garish for some, I love the basic one more than the recolor, plus the cat helmet is good for hunters and shamans (admittedly I mostly liked that it was one of the few mail helmets that didn’t make me feel my ears were literal knives)
The mail sets (desolation, beastlord) for hunters are also mostly good (helmet clipping aside) but they’re pretty elfy since they’re basically the Shattered Sun rangers’ uniform, so might not be to everyone’s tastes.
There are several basic sets that drop from 30-50 level quests that look quite nice when paired with a couple other things. I’m a big fan of my transmog and a couple variations I have of it.
My main three sets for this guy are the Korkron Dark Shaman set, the Heroic 25 man version of the Frost Witch set from ICC (I just usually swap out that set’s headpiece with the Coif of Five Thunders), and the Heroic version of Conquerer’s Worldbreaker from Ulduar (again I swap out that set’s headpiece for the Coif of Five Thunders.)
I put this characters transmog together years ago and haven’t seen anything I like better. I always like my Shaman to have a big rack. I’ve seen a few antler headpieces out there to build a mog around.
