Based entirely on DF engineering: I’d advise to have a miner alt then. Serevite is cheap, draconium not so much, and khazgorite can be prohibitively priced. I don’t know how good the yield is for rousing/awakening elemental reagents from skinning can be, but engi uses rousing fire and rousing earth A LOT, it actually feels unfair compared to bs at times.
Cons - it’s kind of useless in DF. You can’t use explosives in dungeons, so that sucks. Also, new tinkers kind of suck and aren’t worth the slot, nor are the goggles or wrists IMO.
Pros - if you do the work, you can have so many teleports, not just around the Dragon Isles, but other expansions, it makes traveling so simple. Also having Moll-e and jeeves is priceless, and some of the older tinkers are way too useful to pass up (nitro belt, for example, though on a hunter that’s not as necessary). Furthermore, you can make your own guns and scopes, that’s pretty cool. I have an engi paladin, and before DF, I also benefited from shock cables; that’s no longer really useful for me, but that brez will still be useful to you.
