Best money making gathering profession while leveling?

he will regret it later if he does not go Alchemy. most people dont seem to understand that pots (resistances, health, speed, armor etc) are all needed by everyone. most of all when people get into the raiding scene. this isnt modern wow where we face roll everything.

the best (and fastest) way to make gold in ‘vanilla’- is alchemy and tailoring (bags). most of all high end bags.

Right, but I was figuring early on if you’re storing something like herbs until the server community has gold to buy them that you won’t have enough money to provide your bank alts with much better than 8-slot bags. This is just for the beginning.

I don’t think that my bank alts will have 11x 18-slot bags any time soon, lol.

true.

i plan to have a tailoring alt, for that reason alone. saves me gold and makes me gold lol.

You don’t AH the skins, you vendor them as vendor trash. It’s basically just doubling the amount of vendor trash you get per beast mob, while leveling. That’s where the gold comes from, as it’s the only gathering skill that you can get and do along the way without really slowing yourself down.

@ the thread:
DIS-Enchanting is the other, and a good choice since you can just shard things and then AH them (enchanting mats have no cost to list) whenever the market is good… Also worth noting that DIS-enchanting can make decent gold just buying BoEs that are worth less than the enchanting mats they turn into, and you can make some decent coin buying, DEing and listing the mats.

I typically ran enchanting on my toons in OG vanilla, but rarely actually sold enchants as much as just AH fished for deals between bgs queus. Not super great gold, but it was reasonably consistent, particularly since so few people knew how to really track the markets back in OG. I don’t know that it would be nearly as successful this go around (people being more informed about addons like TSM, Auctioneer, etc)

Finally, people need to avoid conflating gathering professions WHILE LEVELING, to ideal professions at 60… Skinning is done while you level, mining and herbing require you to go out of your way while leveling. At 60, every caster dps is going to want to be tailor for Bloodvine Set (bis until Naxx, but only if you’re a 300 tailor) and every PvPer is going to want to be engineer. You can do raw gold farms in place of gathering professions at cap, if you don’t have room for a gathering profession.

id rather not have really cheap skins taking up my inventory. id rather have mob drop greys which sell for significantly more. spend more time out in the world grinding because you dont have stacks of medium leather in your inventory=faster 60 and more money.

ive done both, and engineering is by far the most practical one. only take skinning if you plan on doing devilsaur farm all day.

This is a good point – as I understand it you also don’t have the nodes showing up on your mini-map (unless there’s addons that would help with that) and you also don’t get experience for gathering, if I’m not mistaken.

This is good – it tells you what to store with your bank alts. For example, a engineering leveling kit with all the mats to quickly get from 1 to very near 300 or whatever.

We were sinply doing low cost/launch style bank alts. You sinply wont get 18 slot bags for a while. In fact i think i said a bank alt like this would cost ~2g.

They show up on your mini-map, but you can only track one kind at a time. Addons can be used to save node locations though.

No need to overthink it.

Mining/Herbs. Walk around and pick up $$ as you level. Sure, the economies for these commodities might not be set until guilds start raiding and stuff, but you are literally WALKING AROUND PICKING UP $$$.

Easy peasy.

I used to play the herb/ore markets as well which made me even more gold. Put bids out for everything you find with a large discrepancy between bid and buyout price. Buy up the stuff that someone priced too low. Put it right back on the AH, pocket the difference.

I leveled in vanilla this way on my hunter and always had nice sets of “of the monkey” gear the whole way. Was a very fun way to level and made mount purchases stress free.

3 months in, ore and cloth may do well. initially just gather and bank it.

I remember on my alt female human rogue I would /cry near the rogue trainer and they would always be this nice little Gnome mage around that would come talk to me. I would tell him I had no money for my skills and he would give me a few gold every time. I don’t think he noticed I never leveled over the week I was doing this lol.

My main was only like lvl 19 at the time and I would just dominate BG’s when the twinks where away, the gold really helped me out with buying all the items I needed.

The only other way I made cash back then was from duels, I was no twink and could beat everyone that used to hang out at Gold shire even those that out leveled me. It became a tradition somehow where the higher levels would duel me and if I won they tipped.
