Best level to stop experience at

That is my concern and the info I am looking for.

Does that happen or not? Can I level up to 49? Or should I freeze it at 47?

It did not matter before because I refused to venture past Pandaria but now I having two characters in Legion and need to know as I would like to do the dungeons and need to have a higher level than the 46 I froze then all on.

In WOD, I have had zero competition in hunting for rares that drop mounts. That has been a real boon of Chromie Time so far.

Chromie time is a separate phase from non chromie time which opens up the world a ton. There are 4 phases in old zones now you can hop from which makes farming some things way more enjoyable. Its also nice to not see max level characters everywhere

Non chromie time wm off, non chromie time wm on, chromie time wm off, chromie time wm on

I found this thread, it looks like 47 is safest. They seem to be able to abandon the SL quest and pick back up chromie time?

Can one easily switch Chromie time on and off?

Yep! Its just annoying going back to talk to her but you can swap as much as you want

but why would you want to do bfa dungeons

If you’ve never experienced BFA or its dungeons or to unlocks races and or mogs?

I didn’t have issues using Chromie Time at level 49, with SL intro quest in my log on a recently leveled alt. I was taking advantage of class hall EXP missions for as long as I could before Chromie kicked me out.

I just found out today firsthand, If wanting to lock exp, definitely do it at 47. As soon as I hit 48 and got the pop up SL quest, I could no longer change time frames. The only option available was to return to current.

you could have abandoned the quest…

I’m aware you can do the Maw stuff but does it also include choosing your covenant?
Would be pretty strong to have full mythic Nyalotha gear with upgraded HoA, legendary cloak, essences, and a covenant ability.

nyalotha gear requires 50 to wear i think? and after reading conflicting responses i’m not convinced anymore if you can go back to chromie time after completing maw intro and selecting threads of fate. i have a 48 warrior halfway through the maw so i’m going to complete that soon and get a definitive answer :joy:

I just tried this, for science, and once I had completed the maw, I went back to Orgrimmar at level 49.

Chromie tells me I am needed in the Shadowlands, and will no longer give me the option to enter chrome time. I did not choose threads of fate, or choose a covenant, although I don’t believe that would make a difference.

Before I did the maw intro, I tried to abandon the quest, and that did allow me to re-select chromie-time at level 48.

So, in conclusion, the best time to lock xp is at level 49 before entering the maw. Once you do the maw intro, you can never go back into chromie-time.

Yeah totally, I just wasn’t thinking lol.
Was just the way I read the other post had me jumping to conclusions in excitement.

I think Legion raid gear is lvl 45 though so I’m not sure what ilvl mythic Antorus stuff is right now? Possibly plenty high compared to non-raid BfA gear although no azerite traits.

Think essences only come at end game BfA as well so it would be a question of whether mythic Antorus gear, TW 49 gear, or azerite from BfA norms at 49 would be best.

Probably azerite gear I would imagine, with potentially offset TW gear, and Antorus trinkets.
Not sure where Legion legendaries fall in the equation or if they even work still.

I might have to do a bit of investigating myself.

Hi, so i have done some testing on this and there are a a few issues.

  1. At 48 you get the shadowlands quest. You are able to abandon it and select a chromie time if you are super fast. This is good, sort of.
  2. The only real point for switching chromie time is to do dungeons from a specific xpac. Almost all of the regions are accessible for quests without the lead in from chromie (except legion).
  3. It appears that once you get the 'Shadowlands: A chilling summons" quest, you are now flagged as doing shadowlands. A) if you don’t switch CT, you can keep doing dungeons from whatever CT you were on. cool. B) If you DO switch, (for example to finish the legion class hall campaigns that all require dungeons for some reason but you were farming MOP dungeons) then the flag will trigger, and no more dungeons for you.
  4. If, like me, you are trying to farm specific things from old dungeons @lvl - such as bonus satchels - then sitting in endless queues only to realise they will never pop can be slightly frustrating.

TL:DR: stop xp at 47.

45 gives everything except BfA endgame and SL. That’s been the sweet spot for me going xp off.

My personal experience has been that prior to SL launch, with xp off at lvl 49, I could turn off Chromie Time then turn it back on without problem. However, now (post SL launch) , my alt cannot turn Chromie Time back on, and is instead told by Chromie (in so many words) to go to Shadowlands. The effect is that I can no longer enjoy older content scaled to my level.

I’m not sure what amount of content you want to play through, but I found that level locking at lv30 will allow you to do all the updated classic content (old worlds) while never out-leveling the mobs in each zone. I found it boring running around one-shoting everything, so lv30 keeps you the same level as the zone mobs. As somebody who has played the game on and off since launch, I found it really fun creating a fresh toon, then progressing through ALL of the game content in chronological order lol. Once you have completed all of the old world zones, you can unlock your exp bar and progress to higher level content, then level lock as you please. Just my opinion.
