- Pet battles are not Pokemon, nor should they become Pokemon, please keep it simple.
- Blizzard’s investment in it is limited, please focus on the core content and provide your opinions.
- Wow is first and foremost a PVE game, as well as pet battles. Blizzard has a responsibility to provide a fluent platform for pvp players, but pet PVP will not become the mainstream, any suggestions about expanding the PVP system is futile.
4.There is only one way to save pets from battles, which is to make more people willing to participate. Lower thresholds, more content, and better rewards are necessary.
From what I recall of Pokémon, you just need a strong vs. and to out-level your opponent. Based on that recollection, and having done a LOT of battles as an admin for Xu-Fu’s Pet Guides, WoW’s system is more in-depth and strategic than Pokémon.
“Let ME tell YOU how to spend YOUR time in the game YOU pay money for.”
Please, move along with this particular take.
If a system is broken it needs to be fixed. There is exactly zero harm in offering suggestions on how to fix a broken system. If this were a PvP battleground that didn’t function properly, or heavily favored one faction over another, it would be addressed. This is a system we are meant to utilize, and therefore it should work in a capacity greater than it is now.
They’ve already lowered thresholds by introducing scaling, and the introductory quest I see you’ve partaken in based on your achievements. I don’t disagree that more content and better rewards are necessary.
“Before you give your suggestions, I want to give you some suggestions”
This is a system I spend a lot of time in. In fact, it’s pretty much all I do in-game. I can tell you that based on achievement data, a higher percentage of the playerbase engages with pet battle content than Mythic Raiding content. They are spending so much development time on something < 1% of the playerbase engages with.
However, you don’t see me going into their spaces and trying to tell them they’re wasting their time and should focus on other stuff, because I recognize it’s not my place to tell other people how to play the game.
Just like it’s not yours to tell us the same.
I’m not teaching others how to play games, I just advise them to be realistic and not give so many unrealistic suggestions. As a pet battle player, I certainly hope Blizzard will invest a lot of resources into it, but this is impossible.
M+is like Everest, and pet battles are like grasslands. More people have been to the grasslands than Everest, just because the grasslands are easier to reach. Please embrace reality, Blizzard cannot let pet battles replace m+.
It’s really important in making any comments about pet battling to make it clear whether you’re talking about pet PvE or PvP. They are totally different worlds.
People can suggest whatever they want. I don’t think anyone realistically expects Blizz to follow through with 99% of what they’re suggesting. This is a place for people to discuss things, and some of those things are suggestions, or what they’d like to see done with pet battles.
Nowhere did I say pet battles should replace Mythic+. I said Mythic+ RAIDING gets less engagement than pet battles, yet they dump a ton of dev time into it.
And you’ve defeated your own argument. If way more of your playerbase prefers to hang out in the grasslands, why would you put so much effort into Everest? Why are they catering to < 1% of players?
Now, Mythic+ DUNGEONS are a whole different thing, and get much more general, daily engagement than pet battles, just like LFR, Normal, and Heroic raids.
I don’t think the game should become World of Pet Battles. In fact, the dev time we get amounts to, ‘I’m sitting at home after work working on pet battle stuff’ & they ‘work on the Pet Battle system when time permits’, both of which are statements made by devs. However, you don’t get to come on here and tell people they can’t make suggestions, because we KNOW how little they care about pet battles. We KNOW how little time they put towards it. And we KNOW they don’t listen to any of this on the forums, Twitter, subreddits, so on, and I can personally attest that they don’t even listen in the content creator discord.
Just because we know all this doesn’t mean we shouldn’t make suggestions. We don’t have to be realistic, this is a game.
This is the place for suggestions. Whether they’re reasonable or not is completely up to the devs. You never even know if your crazy idea was in the back of someone’s mind when they had a more obtainable one. Besides, they’re fun! They’ve said multiple times they do read the forums.
Personally (not having done your research) I think that’s probably how many players approach it as well. A whole lot have achievements, but I’m not sure how many really focus on it as content they might put a significant amount of time in. However, it’s clearly enough for them to continue to add new pet battle features and pets every patch.
To both of these points, I don’t think anyone imagined we’d get pet races or something like the whelp daycare. Much less on a mid-expansion patch. Those would have seemed, to some, to be some pretty crazy ideas. Granted, I think the races are awkward and miserable, but it’s awesome that they’re there! It was something new and exciting. And it encourages more people to check out pet battles, whether they’re new or giving it another shot.
Everyone plays for different reasons. I work on my raid and mythic+ stuff first, and my pet battles are more background and almost maintenance type mode (go go pet charms!!). I know for Amayita it’s a lot less group content and more pet battling. Different things we find fun at different times. And neither one of us should tell the other how to play.
I think the Devs know their time and resources better than we do. We can ask for anything. And if the Devs think the time investment would encroach upon other areas of the game too much, they won’t do it.
Are you a community liaison or dev by any chance? You’re coming across as extremely arrogant right now. (And as those in this community will tell you, coming from me, that’s really saying something.)
We will make up our own minds as to the things we ask for. And the Devs will decide what is futile to ask for. You have no way of knowing.
The Devs have done things for PvP in the past. As you must know, if you’ve done any pet battling in the past, our tabard came about because the Devs decided to throw us a bone.
I hardly think asking for greater rewards for PvP, or perhaps a system that rewards a small amount of honor for PvP, would be a huge time investment.
Which is all anyone’s been asking for. Maybe I missed something.
I did ask for another pet dungeon, I know. I think Scholomance would be an awesome pet dungeon. Maybe give us a pet that looks like that floating skull and spinning crossbones thing. Evidently, that’s not happening, but contrary to your beliefs, it doesn’t hurt to ask.
ETA: It occurs to me that the Devs might not even want the pet battle community to get larger. The bigger we become, the stronger our collective voice gets and the more time and resources they will need to allocate to us.
I wish that were still true. They just do what they want and if it happens to line up with player suggestions they’ll brag about ‘listening’.
More often than not there’s no player feedback for the changes shoved down our throats so they just ignore that and do what they want anyway.
