Been a couple weeks... overwolf?

The overlay is automatically installed when you install Overwolf in order to get the Curseforge program.
Doesn’t matter if you put any Overwolf Apps on it or not it is there. As a matter of fact, it is always running on your computer!

Nice job of continuing to feed the community false information as you plug Overwwolf on the WoW forums.

Just because you can’t see what Overwolf is doing, doesn’t mean everything is “fine”.

It’s not doing anything… I open the Curseforge app update addons and exit.

I really wonder how some people survive these days being paranoid about everything. :woman_shrugging:t2:

Exactly what overlay are you talking about??

I am curious as well. I see no overlay at all, and checking settings the overlay is, in fact, disabled.

Can I ask you if you’ve downloaded and installed the correct Curseforge client ?
The official one from https://curseforge.overwolf.com/ ?
Tried to use Overlays ?
Reconfigured anything inside Curseforge / Overwolf ?

No Overlays are not pre-installed with Overwolf software. All of them come disabled by default. You need to install them per game. You can try launching Wow without installing an Overlay and nothing happens (verified this tonight). Until you install an overlay you can hit your overlay key as many times as you like nothing happens.

When you quit Curseforge you can set it to quit both Curseforge and Overwolf.
If you do all processes that Overwolf starts quit. This I checked by looking at what processes started when opening Curseforge then manually checking they had gone when I quit Curseforge.

No complaints here, boot up, check for updates if in game message prompts me after log out, and forget about it.

Kind of glad I dont need to worry about twitch anymore, as I never watch any streamers other than Hearthstoners clips on youtube

I used Curse from wotlk, on up to just recently. They moved to twitch, which was tolerable, aside from trying to shove streamers down my throat all the time, then they moved to Overwolf, and at first I was happy to be rid of streamers. It was good for maybe a week, then they announced the most bonehead move ever, and I ditched them and got Wowup and have been decently happy, aside from having to hunt down a few addons that weren’t available at the time. Overwolf just seemed bloated, and like twitch, wanted to bundle a bunch of crap some folks didn’t want or need.

ajour is really good one, it has native build for us, linux gamers. It is in AppImage but can self update inside this image (I was quite surprised). Runs smoothly, nice color schemes. 10/10 Would play again.

edit: Oh, and forgot to add that now ajour can update addons from TukUI, curse and wowinterface. And you can provide an url for some specific case (I guess for these addons on GitHub or another great storage).

I used to update manually, was fine for a decade or more. But wowup is too good to pass up.
Overwolf has always been a ‘literally who’, and it still is, so where it got the money for this purchase is suspicious.

Go for it. But please don’t keep coming back here to tell us about it.

You can but you already know the answer because in order to use the Curseforge Client you must have Overwolf with its Overlay! So quit trying to sugarcoat what Overwolf does when you already know it!
The minute you install Overwolf the Overlay is there! If you are not aware of that then just logging into the game and hit ctrl-tab! The surprise will be waiting for you!

Try again! The base overlay is installed as part of Overwolf. The Overwolf addons that show on the overlay are installed from the Overwolf store and go into the overlay. Try harder to sugarcoat it!

very noice!

That’s because if you actually read on the overwolf app, they are going into full action 2021. They are just deceiving people right now. Ads and overlay are not turning on until after dec 31st lol…

Which is disabled by default.

When ads in the Curseforge app are activated there will be an ad free subscription option just like with the Curse Client that existed before Twitch. Nothing is changing with overlays… you won’t see any unless you install or turn one on.

You probably didn’t configure it to shut down when you close Cursed Forge. If you do that, it will go away I have double checked the task manager to make sure. By default it stays open in the background if you just close the Cursed Launcher.

I have been running it for over a month now and I haven’t had any issues with it. Seems to work exactly like the twitch updater did and if you are worried about it running in the back ground, go into the settings option and click “Exit CursedForge and Overwolf” for the “When I close CurseForge” setting.

So for science I decided to uninstall Overwolf and reinstall it with a fresh copy.

Overlays still are not enabled by default. I installed it , opened up Curseforge and from the Privacy settings opened Overwolf settings. Leaving Overwolf settings open (without changing any settings) I opened Wow and pressed the default overlay key of control - tab

Nothing showed up as expected.

For Overlays you need to open Overwolf’s settings then go up to the Overlay tab and swing a supported game down to open. Doing this for World of Warcraft tells me that “Overwolf is disabled for this game. Enable it to allow your installed apps to work in-game” . Enabling it was a matter of clicking a radio button so it was red for “On” (just because it has a color icon doesn’t mean the overlay is on)

Getting the overlay key to bring up the Overwolf dock was a little bit janky/buggy. Not only did I have to leave Overwolf open but I needed to click the Overwolf icon in the system tray a few times on first use as I need to click past a first install introducing the dock window. Then on launching World of Warcraft I had to switch between Windowed mode and Full Screen (windowed) mode before the dock showed up.

So it sounds like overlays really won’t be an issue for anyone unless you decide to run them.

I use WoWup because I only need a lightweight manager, whereas Overwolf remains too bloated.
