Bard/Tinker support classes in our potential future?

No interest in bards - I think Tinker could be fun. Personally, id rather see specs added to existing classes

No, you can’t. You think every engineer is on the level of Mekkatorque and Gazlowe, the two Tinker racial leaders represented in the game? Tinkers are geniuses.

That said, I would suspect Vulpera would fit Tinker and possibly Dwarf. Maybe even Forsaken, with all of their experiments and such. Probably Draenei since they can literally build and repair spaceships.

To start, probably would only be Gnome and Goblin though (maybe Mechagnome and Vulpera). That’s what they’re known for. That’s what their racial leaders represent.

Lastly, as far as the mech suits go, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a whole suit. Gazlowe in HoTs has a backpack with a robot on his back and the robot arms acting as his. Could easily just make it extended arms or something for a character as big as a Tauren, have it retract into the backpack when out of combat for all of them. The game has the tech now because of Worgen and Dracthyr.

Yes, that’s why I said a bard could work as a rogue spec. A bard could be its own class, but I feel like it would be convoluted, especially if it is a support class baseline as bards are. That makes it a support class not a spec.

No tinkers pls.

Yes, you can. We even specialize in Gnomish or Goblin engineering. And the entire point of being an engineer is that you learn how to craft the intricate things. Tinker would just be a more combat-focused application of Engineering. Since literally every race can learn Engineering, it stands to reason that every race would be capable of becoming Tinkers.

Also, the whole backpack idea probably shouldn’t be all the time, but instead show up when certain abilities demand (like Paladin wings). This way the class plays a bit nicer with mogs.

Vulpera are not an engineering-focused race. I’m so tired of the constant insistence that the race whose most advanced technology before joining the Horde was wooden carriages pulled by alpacas is on the same level as gnomes or goblins, yet they get lumped in every single time the subject of potential tinker races comes up, with no examples of them being equal to those races ever being cited and often over actually advanced races like draenei, Dark Irons, and Mag’har.

They might lack in the tech department themselves, but they could also be quite adept at fixing things they find like guns. After all, one of their WQs had us testing something they found and fixed or were given to try.

So Vulpera might fit as tinker not becase they are eng focused but because they are scavengers who can fix/adapt tech they find to suit their needs.

I think I’d rather see a new Undermine Goblin race added, as the 4th. Picture them being a bit more 1920s mobster.

An example

That or Leper Gnomes.

i dont think we’ll see either
i believe they experimented with tinker in BFA with the island adventures then scrapped the idea entirely.

Apparently “suspect” and “maybe” are insistence…I was just thinking about Alliance and Horde having equal options. Alliance has two types of Gnomes. Horde got Vulpera instead of Gilgoblins. Take it up with Blizzard.

bards from the bards tale

I can think of two off the top of my head.

One was a bit more of a nod to the game composer, but there’s another in Maldraxxus walking around playing tunes.

=-=-=-=-

As for what races, I wouldn’t mind it being open to all but there’s definitely some that need to be included.
gnomes - goblins
draenei - undead
humans - orcs
I’d even say nightborne as there’s one in orgrimmar.

The D.Va, Ana, Torb examples work pretty well as that’s exactly how the Gnome and Goblin teams for the Island Expeditions already in game worked.

Having the mech as a customizable “bear” form would be great.

Mmo-champ also has some great examples of both classes that do sound fun.

as long as the bard is alive and playing an instrument their spell will be in effect during the battle -for example a slow heal will continue the whole time, or a shield spell. There can also be traveling heal spells while walking too.

So a Bard can have 100% uptime with the press of a button and then just wander about? Sounds absolutely busted.

I think, again, it should draw more from FFXIV. Maybe they don’t have to specifically use harp-bows, but they need mechanics other than ‘press button to sing.’

Tinkering is Engineering with a class focus instead of a profession focus; any race capable of learning Engineering should be able to focus their efforts into being a Tinker.

What does a Tinkler do anyways?

They would need ot have an instrument in the offhand

I’d imagine more ‘weaponized’ applications of Engineering skill; ablative plating, shield generators, heavier (or modified) weapons, rather than the eccentric side-projects Engineering itself provides.

That’s not a major problem (though it is a problem to have a weapon class for literally one class), what’s more the Bard really shouldn’t be a one-button-wonder. It’s fine to have protracted songs, FFXIV does this with Wanderer’s Minuet/Mage’s Ballad/Army’s Paeon, you start the song, then satisfy conditions in the song with your attacks during it, and get bonuses both to the song’s effects and the song itself grants the Bard special actions or effects upon being augmented/completed. Completed all three? Then you get a BIG special to use!

do the songs only affect the bard or the whole team in a raid?
