Banning GDKPs is only a bandaid fix

No, you are not, because Blizzard can or should already be able to detect bought gold. You’re not fooling anyone by doing so, which is what money laundering is.

To be fair to them, they literally cannot go into further detail without damaging their ability to go after bots. The more they talk about what they have going on, the more the botters and gold sellers can develop ways around them. Its a never-ending shadow war where duplicity and subterfuge are as much tools in Blizzard’s arsenal as they are in the botters.

On the other hand, I’m not holding my breath that Blizzard’s new tools will suddenly get rid of botting and RMT overnight either. But I guess we’ll see.

Haven’t they had 20 years to figure it out?

Wait, they added GT?

Please understand, the small indie company executives couldn’t afford to finance a second yacht and also pay staff to actually police the game.

Laundering LOL oh my god.

This is too funny.

I hope you’re right, they definetly should be able to detect bought gold, Idk what’s the usual method for transferring bought gold to players, but if it’s a large quantity I think it definetly alerts them

maybe the laundering wasn’t the right word, but people were still benefiting of illegal gold

We know they can detect bought gold because they’ve banned players in GDKP runs for receiving gold someone else bought.
So - why not just ban the gold buyer to begin with, given they seem to know exactly where the illicit gold is?

I mean, continuing to play devil’s advocate, it’s not like botters and gold sellers are the same as they were 20 years ago. Again, this is an ongoing shadow war. Blizzard’s defenses are being developed in real time, but so are the botters and gold sellers’ offensive techniques. There’s no moment where Blizzard will suddenly triumph over botting altogether in one final move that will enable us all to have our very own digital Happily Ever After.

This doesn’t work like that. Blizzard will be fighting new and evolving cheating techniques for the rest of their lifespan as a company.

Well can’t they just see a player has 500 gold but hes never put anything on the AH and his professions arent leveled up?

Or a low level character?

Removing player agency is a net negative for the game and always will be.

The real issue is the lack of effective enforcement for TOS breaking actions, botting is incredibly rampant and it’s very clear that current methods have totally failed. The botting directly harms the economy via gold injection, and gold buying is not detected and punished effectively.

Banning GDKP is punishing players who do not break TOS because blizz is powerless against bots/RMT.

Some of the best gaming experiences I’ve had over the past few years have been in 40man GDKPs, and now I won’t get to see that again in SoD, sad.

We should be concerned about what further actions will be taken to remove player agency and restrict community behaviour, this sets a bad precedent.

yep, despite our different views on gdkps, I think we all agree that ban waves aren’t working and they should ban bots as soon as it’s detected

My assertion that GDKP hosts know that people are buying gold in their runs? Yes, this is well known. Watch the video for proof. They are laughing and know totally well that people are buying gold.

Why has the price of gold dropped a so much since the announcement if this was not the case. My take was highly accurate, honest and the proof is in the gold prices dropping.

Aggrend talked about bad actors. You sound like Steven Seagal

Yeah but Steven Seagal is an amazing comedian, his action movies never fail to make me laugh. How dare you use him as an insult…

You have nothing but anecdote and are self-aggrandizing and putting yourself on a pedestal, but your ideas don’t hold up to any kind of scrutiny and are in direct defiance of rational thought.
It’s nothing more than the same kind of dogmatic vitriol present in bigotry; hate spawned by fear and anxiety directed by a bandwagon with no basis in reality.

If you’ve never seen Steven Seagal run then do yourself a favor and look it up.

The way he runs is comedy gold.
