Ban Single Word Names On RP Realms at Character Creation

Some people would change their name to a concept to better fit their crusade or purpose in life, why keep them from fulfilling that RP aspect of their game lives?

No, but you will find daisy, hyacinth and rose, all of which are names too, and would be banned if your poor idea ever gets implemented.

There isn’t any way to auto filter it unless it’s an obvious swear word. Just report as you see them, there’s really no other way

God, I hope that if they ever send someone a message that they have to change their name, and their name is Daisy, they quote Val Kilmer’s Doc Holiday “You’re no Daisy at all”

huh? zagoo?

…and changes it to ‘Huckleberry’?

…and flipping hair, of course!

Ok how’s this …

Run the Merriam-Webster dictionary through a blacklist, including special character variations.

Then run a baby name book with 50,000+ names through a white list.

Problem solved.

This would not ban anything that Blizzard already does NOT allow on RP realms. All it would do is save time for players and Blizzard Customer Service.

Leodrin is a drug.

Reporting your name OP.

You know Leod is a word that would be banned…

leod . Noun. (plural leod or leods ) Alternative or obsolete form of lede

and from Merrian-Websters:

Definition of Leo

(Entry 1 of 2)

1 : a northern constellation east of Cancer

oh and this:

Definition of drinn

: a coarse prickly weedy grass ( Aristida pungens ) of northern Africabroadly : a stretch of country overgrown with this grass

Say goodbye to Thrall then. What about words with an alternate spelling? Because then we have to get rid of Cairne and Baine.

Why can there not be a Goblin Rogue named Flash? That would be perfectly fine for RP.

tl;dr your idea is foolish and you’re complaining just to complain. Also it would be insanely hard. And stupid.

No, you’re complaining about the OP just to complain which is why your criticism is stupid.

Blizzard reserves the right to name their characters whatever they want and Flash is on any baby name book which means it would be white listed.

This makes no sense to me given that in both real life and the game sometimes names double as normal words, for example my kid has a friend named Sky, and Ivy… and imagine all S.I.7s code names getting banned… such a nonsense reach to think of banning any name with a word from a dictionary

Most of the time people use an rp mod to change their name anyway. Ik, when I move to another realm in a week I’m going to lose my name too. I’ve had to come up with something just to tide me over while I use TRP to give me back what I had. What names do you consider bad? Sometimes they are all that is available.

You know what else would save time? Not giving two flips about it. People can come up with RP reasons for their names, so get over it?

For a human being with an IQ above 85, pretty easy.

For a computer with an IQ of 2, pretty hard.

While I agree with the OP to a point, this isn’t what the RP communities need. Stricter enforcement of the RP naming policies would be more beneficial even if it did include a filter that searched a broader list of “banned” names.

Names like Cogs, Wrench, Apple, etc that your Merriam-Webster would flag are acceptable names via the RP communities. Yet it wouldn’t catch names like Gndwizardkkk or BritanySpears, both of which are clear violations of the policies and are a constant nuisance to the RP communities on multiple realms.

Reporting names does very little. Blizz does not enforce the policies when it comes to the RP servers spite the accusations that at minimum 5 players is needed to get any action taken on a name. RP communities are dying left and right, yet since it not a Blizz controlled aspect of the game. Maybe Classic will change this, or at least put in the old policies, but it is currently looking unlikely.

Excuse you? Names that are also words are extremely common.

And MANY MANY more. These are all words in the English Dictionary, yes, that includes Merriam Webster as well as Oxford.

Or are you telling me you wish for Blizzard to remove them from the game as well because it’ll break your immersion?

Also, I notice you aren’t posting on your RP realm character. I assume because you probably have something like Leodrinn, which would violate the naming policy if someone really wanted to be a jerk and make a personal vendetta against you for this thread. What do you mean, you ask? Well, I’m glad you asked.

As such, if you were on an RP realm with the name Leodrinn, one could easily argue that you were violating the naming clause you agreed to when you made a character on an RP realm because you’re using the name Leodrinn, which is a name made up of Multiple Words.

  1. Leo, meaning: a northern constellation east of Cancer
  2. Drinn, meaning: a coarse prickly weedy grass ( Aristida pungens ) of northern Africa

People in Glass Houses REALLY shouldn’t throw stones.

Except, which the OP, and you and many other people on RP realms seem to not know, it’s actually AGAINST the RP Realm Naming Policy to use names consisting of more than 1 word.

Am I the only one who actually reads the policies they agree to?

What gets me about the OP’s complaints is most RPers tend to outright gloss over or straight-up ignore people who are obviously trolls. It’s genuinely not that hard, though slightly annoying. How hard is it to right-click someone’s name and report it if you feel like it doesn’t conform to the RP realm guidelines when you happen to run across them? It’ll get reviewed, and action will be taken if necessary.

It is, after all, Blizzard’s terms. They’re the ones that decide what an “acceptable” name is at the end of the day.

The OP like the concept of the thought police.

TRP > MRP.

More features, more visually appealing and more people use it.
