Baine "represents all that is best about the Horde"?

The issue isn’t that he forgets his moral compass. It’s that Blizzard only pulls him out when the Alliance needs to convince the Horde of something.

Its actually the other way around.
Horde is the one that needs to convince us (the viewer) of something. Whatever that thing is.
Baine’s actions only benefit the Horde (Forsaken free will) he doesn’t give a rats butt what happens to none Horde.

He probably gave Derek back to the only person/faction that could protect him.

The way Baine treated the victims of Taujaro was disgusting and enough of a reason for him to be on my list. He only makes a stand when one of his Alliance besties is in trouble.

He’s fine with burning down Teldrassil apparently but trying to kill Jaina is too far… not like she’s the biggest gun the Alliance has or anything. Glad she didn’t go back to slaughtering Horde soldiers right after getting her brother returned… oh wait!

I’m not even going to touch Baine sending pieces of his horn to Anduin like a love letter. Baine is a clown and an awful excuse of a Horde character. Cairne did Tauren chieftain sooooo much better.

Andiun brings all the boys down to the yard. Haven’t you heard?

Everyone’s talking about Taelia being Anduin’s love interest but I think you all need to get ready for High Queen Baine Bloodhoof.

I am more worried about Prince of Persia… I mean Wrathion.

He’s the boy king with three lies, probably.

He’s like Little Annie Fanny.

Bulls shave off pieces of their horn to send to him, and Dragons want to run away with him.

It was sent because Sylvanas was trying to help show they were worth being in the Horde. If the two things are unrelated it only makes it less blackmail because the Forsaken are under no obligation to keep helping them.

So again, would you call this blackmail?

Apparently you are being threatened with something as a bargaining chip to get you to do something you don’t want to. Whether or not the Blood Elves had a transaction, curious on this.

I like to think Lor’themar was delirious from the salt water he accidentally drank when he said that nonsense.

No way in hell I’m ever getting behind him or the rest of the three stooges not matter what Blizz does.

I hate it too, but the myth isn’t entirely a wrong. I literally just made a thread about it and how him being a “self-insert” isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

However, Nathanos has definitely become a self-insert.

Let me be clear, it’s not so much that the character himself is a self-insert, but it’s the way that he’s constantly used in the narrative that makes him a self-insert.

He came right the heck out of nowhere in Legion and has since essentially become the new “Nazgrim” for the Horde. He’s a constant presence in Horde questing and is incredibly loyal to his cause. However, the thing that seperates Nazgrim and Nate is the simple fact that while Nazgrim felt like his completely own character with a complete arc, Nathanos exists in the narrative seemingly to constantly blow smoke up Sylvanas’s @$$, to be her personal hypeman and cheerleader. He offers very little else to the overall narrative other than being Danseurs’ vehicle from which he can talk about how awesome Sylvanas is.

Like I said before, Nate has been given multiple opportunities by the narrative to display his individuality, but all he ever seems to do is gawk and throw praise at Sylvanas and how “great” she is. Nazgrim praised Garrosh too, yes, but never to the point in which it defined his character. When we were eventually forced to kill him in SoO, It was heartbreaking because we had quested alongside him and have fought side-by-side for 3 expansions. So being forced to kill him was super tragic. With Nathanos, Horde players could be forced to kill him in the next patch as a quest mob in the War campaign and they wouldn’t bat an eye, because he’s had no major impact on players. All he’s ever done is insult us and mention his precious “dark lady” every other sentence.

Shameless shipper rant inc.

I have a different perspective of Nathanos than you and Droite seem to have, to the surprise of no one, and why I’m not so keen on the idea of him turning on her just because. Just think about the timeline. In the flashback scene in Dark Mirror, it’s pretty much established that they’re already in a relationship and this was before the 2nd war even started. There’s no concrete evidence for when they actually started their relationship but the 2nd war started in year 4 and they both died around year 22. So, they had a living relationship and fought wars together for at least 18 years. In life, Sylvanas risked her own reputation to make him Ranger Lord. In death, Sylvanas searched for him specifically to free, made him her champion again, and then later on used one of her Valkyr to restore his body. Even before Dark Mirror was written Nathanos said this in the Vanilla quest where he sends you to kill the scourge that killed him

She came for me… somewhere, somehow, I knew she would. Free.

I mean, it’s pretty obvious why he’s so fiercely loyal to (and talks positively about) someone he has spent 30 years with through life and death. That’s a very intense bond. Also, as a Sylvanas fan I like that she has someone that she trusts as much as Nathanos. He’s included in her plans, she doesn’t view him as just her errand boy. She genuinely cares for the guy and believes in his abilities.

Also, seems less of a self-insert and more that the author just liked those little tidbits from Vanilla we got and expanded upon it. If they had just made up an entirely new character to play this role then I could buy it but eh, the “evidence” is flimsy at best.

As much as I like Lor’themar we cannot forget he is a Belf, they switch sides as much as they flip their hair.

As for Baine being the “best” about the horde idk, that just shows how low the standards are for what the Horde could be.

As a weird tangent … just finished watching the playthrough of the “Save Ebonhorn” storyline … and I gotta say it was cool. Also, it makes me REALLY hope we see something cool happen from Sabellian (Baron Sablemane) in the future if we’re really going down a redemption of the Black Dragonflight storyline!

Tauren are just typically the most honor-bound and peaceful of the Horde races. Infact, if they hadn’t allied with people they drew pity on (like Orcs or the Forsaken) the Alliance probably would’ve left them be. It’s simply because the Tauren felt an obligation to help others that they wound up in the situation they have.

Tauren are also a difficult race to corrupt by fel or void, so they have that going for them too.

Baine believes deeply in the Horde, though I wish he was less of a pacifist.

Lor’themar was attempting to defect to the Alliance at the beginning of MoP. His beef with Jaina? Maybe you ignored the content of MoP?
