Ret could be 1% dps behind war and these people would still complain. Anyone who’s been paying attention for the last 20 years knows how it will play out.
Trying to appease players through balance is a lost cause. It’s never good enough.

I would say this is reasonable.
I mean, yeah… they are bringing it dual spec, and have already implemented many changes that are not “mostly authentic.” Enough that anybody asking for changes has a point.
You could say, “Just play Era” if you want authentic, but then realize that they “just make changes to Era” too. So there is no authentic experience here. It is the complaining change wanting playerbase that the devs are catering to.
So, what’s the play? I sure don’t know, but if we just stay subbed and play what they give us, that’s just signaling that we’re OK with what they are offering.

Agreed. The community at large will always take what is best and nothing more. You neuter warrior, then it becomes rogue and mage. So what next? Neuter mage and rogue? Then what? Now druid is performing poorly. So neuter other classes while buffing them up? They’ll just continue to take what parses the highest… and if it was Paladin, the Paladin would be on here raging they have to share Ragnaros with 12 other Paladin in their runs. Simple solution, either put together their own raid team and play how they like, or find a laid back guild who doesn’t give two flying figs about their spec.
The play is to have fond memories of Vanilla back in 2004 and try to enjoy what you can from the classic releases.

Yup and it never works because if you get to a point where everyone is within 2/3% then what everyone does is play the DPS that’s easiest to achieve that result.
This is pathetic.
Blizzard made SoD where paladins can literally do everything. Go play that.

The reality is… you can raid and play whatever you want at end game you just can’t do it in parsing guilds that aren’t speed clearing
if a meme speccer wants to farm all the prebis, farm consumes, grab world buffs before every raid just like everyone then sure they can raid. expecting loot before the meta specs who essentially carry them and the raid? that’s a separate issue. like a ret paladin that does all the above is unlikely to get onslaught girdle before the dps warriors all have it for example

The type of players complaining about these things will always min/max. To the slightest little amount. For any edge…in 20 year old content that braindead monkeys did just fine back in the day.
I also find this attitude in threads like this quite selfish and full of entitlement. Blizz literally just made a Seasonal server for this expressed purpose. But that’s not enough. Need to change Classic too. And when you point out that, the best they can come up with is, “But I didn’t want those changes!”
Yes, that’s precisely the point. Congratulations on stumbling upon the problem with changes: they mean something different to each person. You ask a million people what changes they want, and you get a million different answers. You will never satisfy everyone…or even anyone. So Blizz actually did the smart thing in creating a Seasonal server specifically for this intent, and we still get threads like this.
Which is why authenticity was always the best design philosophy for Classic.

If the majority of your enjoyment comes from playing a dps role, then don’t roll paladin! How i hated my time as Ret during vanilla / tbc back in the days!

justice for me – add Behsten & Slahtz so my repmaxx’ing is easier.
It’s funny because you’d think the answer to wanting to be a great dps would be to pick one of the 4 pure dps classes.
But instead you pick the best tank class if go also want to be the best dps class.
Pure MMO genius.

Paladins are competent in raids. You could clear raids with only 30 players, all paladins, quite easily.
Parsing isnt the game. Stop confusing it as being so

They can. Go healer. It’s like saying tune warlocks in classic so they can heal.
You have dual specs. Go healer for PvE and Ret for PvP. Pretty simple.

If any thing pallies need a nerf.
I just made a Ret and rolled Hogger solo at level 10.
And my single talent point was put into increased int.
Last 20% of the fight had 4 adds spawn on me and they still couldn’t keep me from killing him.
DPS isn’t everything, you can’t fight when you are dead.
Then I stayed and watched 2 prot warriors and a priest healer take forever to bring him down.
