That is the “abstinence” option, for sure. Unfortunately, many people try the “pull out” option and cant understand why it doesnt work.

It’s true. I’ve played on PVE servers, at no point was I ganked.

Except pulling out does work according to the actual data…
No method is 100% effective except abstinence. In this case, if you play on a pve server and dont flag, you have a 100% chance of not having another player gank you.
Pve server has mutual consent, lease to buy agreement with an option for residuals.
If you believe the myths then even abstinence isnt 100%

Why pull out? Raw dog it and push hard at release. That’s real PvP.
Can confirm, I enjoy the leveling process and have never been forced to play in a zone I didn’t want to or log onto an alt while on a PvE server.
Back in vanilla, there were ways people would get you accidently flagged so they could kill you on PvE servers. The Alliance on my server seemed especially fond of finding lowbie Horde and flagging themselves and running around in areas you were trying to kill stuff (or click on quest things or fishing) and try to get you to accidently right-click them and flag yourself or they would find people using aoe spells and run into the aoe which would flag the person as well. There seemed to be lots of ways to get accidently flagged. It took them many expansions to finally make it so it was almost impossible to get accidently flagged on a PvE server.
Another thing they would do is wait for you to start an escort quest where the npc to be escorted wasn’t pvp flagged and kill the npc right before you finished the escort just to grief you. While that isn’t the same as ganking, it was almost as annoying. They would kill quest givers who were far from towns and guards too so you couldn’t turn in your quests.

There is also the option to go for the faction with a huge faction favored imbalance on the server, i guess that is the “back door” option?
