Yeah this makes not counting 30% of the ladder even worse.
Quick math of top 24 getting R1 gives us a total of 24k total teams in the running for titles
Maybe the API isn’t bugged? The leaderboard API is showing only 5k teams for space reasons, but the gladiator API seems to be counting everything. Would like some clarification on this blizzard.
Hell, they might even be using the retail API where it’s just based off team rating. That means it’s possibly not even counting the 10 games played requirement, meaning there could be even less teams
I was talking with my team last night and brought up a similar point. It does feel they majorly dropped the ball on S1 and phase 1 in general with their rushed release.
I could come up with the reason maybe they didnt want people to somehow “pool boost” the arena brackets by making teams on alts, but I think it ended up wit the problem “uh sir, most arent reaching 1500.” You are right this screwed over a lot of participation this season with how vague this new system seems to be.
Don’t forget a lot of people don’t step foot into arena without getting some honor gear. They did 1 BG, saw it’d take 15 hours for a single item, and then stopped bothering with it.
The honor changes should’ve been live in the first month. Here we are not getting them until phase 2. The whole season is just a write off for a lot of people
So what I suspect is that there’s an inherent problem where their MMR system collides with the very RNG-heavy nature of TBC-era PVP: it becomes “certain” about what your actual rating is much more quickly than it should, because you are bound to lose some games at some point due to multiple CC resists, RNG procs, etc. This means that a team that could be, for example, a team with underlying ability of 1850 could start plateauing due to some unlucky losses at, say, 1500, then have to grind out the remaining 350 rating getting 5-10 points for a win.
Naturally, this wouldn’t matter if people had infinite time and energy to grind out their true ratings, but they don’t, so you’re going to get a lot of people stopping well short of the ratings they could be earning. Combine that with the fact that everyone starts at 0 instead of 1500, and you end up with a big chunk of people who would be filling in the 1500-1700 range are below 1500 instead, and not contributing to the pool.
Makes sense.
You can easily verify it isn’t counting any team below 1000 rating by looking at the NA 5s ladder available Gladiator spots and then going to look at the number of people it requires. It will be within 200 spots.
This is obviously a massive problem, making rewards harder to earn in a season that put a lot of players massively behind from the beginning is not good. 30% of all players will get a reward lower than they earned (going by the original TBC numbers.)
Spot on. This has happened many times to myself and others.
If theres any blizzard employees reading this thread, I implore you to remove the rating requirements at the same time you reduce gear cost at the end of season 1. The two changes to original TBC (adding rating requirements and removing arena points at the end of season 1) both add up to a spit in the face to players like me. If you remove the rating requirements at the end of season and allow people who’ve been playing all season to get the gear they wanted, (and could have achieved in original TBC) I think that will be an OK compromise.
Just keep shoulders as 2k for some kind of flex at least.
This was not how it was in TBC, S1 and S2 are supposed to be NO REQUIREMENTS to give everyone a chance to gear up for pvp. That was the original experience. These changes are retail gatekeeping no one asked for…
Imagine if 95% of raiders weren’t given shoulder or weapons for phase 1 based on parses.
I’m actually surprised that blizzard could mess up arena this badly, especially when arena is one of the primary reasons many, many people decided to play TBCC in the first place.
Just want to clarify that is actually teams under 1000 rating, not 1500 that aren’t counting.
don’t mind me, just crawling through here searching for those sweet blue letters, like a mana starved blood elf, i crave for the communication, i will die if i don’t have my blue post to read, oooh that sweet blue…
Bump this should be addressed.
Wtf is that character name
I didn’t even think about that. I’ve been going nuts over analyzing 2s and just assuming it’s right, just low.
If it’s not counting teams below 1000 then everything makes sense. There’s teams that q up lose 10 and never go above 0 but should still be counted towards the pool. There are thousands of teams below 1k.
hopefully we can get answers soon
Need a response please!
be nice to have a ladder like retail does
