Authenticator

You must not have cared too much about it then.

I got hacked BEFORE they had authenticators. Scanned a copy of my ID and such, then less than an hour later i had my acct, and by the end of the day everything was restored. That was over 10 years ago, i got an authenticator (a physical thing at the time) and i’ve never been hacked since.

ive never been hacked at all - it only prevented the rightful owner from getting in

im never doing authenticators again. that was my lesson.

i didnt know you could do copies of ids. its been a while but i was under the impression that they wanted actual ids sent through actual mail - that would def. be more than an hour heh

No I don’t know why I still have this… I may have a problem.

As Blizzard doesn’t sell them anymore check Amazon they sell them there…

retired is also an option. not all of us work until we die.

You don’t even need to go as far as setting up a virtual machine. You can get BlueStacks (free Android emulator) and install the authenticator app like you would on a phone. Once you login to the game, you can kill BlueStacks so it doesn’t tie up resources.

There are many ways to do this. Either way they are all pretty easy.

Keep in mind, any you find there are extremely old. They haven’t been in production in many years now and the battery in them is not likely to last much longer unfortunately.

What about raids?

@soandso, going to soandso, aotc, first x bosses, etc., etc. I could get behind this authenticator change if their LFG tool wasn’t so absolutely terrible.

Why not just ditch custom text entirely in lieu of Blizz provided tags/labels?

I usually try to convey the same info anyways (what boss we are on, how far we are going, what class/spec/role we need, know fights, other relevant stuff).

Also this won’t do much to curtail the new guild recruitment group trend that is popping up.

Didn’t think about that …thank you Perl for that info…I use phone one even though I don’t really trust it but we are stuck with that now…I just hate my phone being connected too the internet.

You can replace the battery in them but you have to rough up the case some.

Aaaand it didn’t work. Had to remove the physical one before I could install the mobile so waited until I got home, tried over and over, never would work.

Did a little googling and found another forum post from earlier this year that said the issue is resolved by adding a phone number to your account… which is literally the entire problem with not being able to get the SMS authentication. lol

So back to square one with Blizzard saying the exact same phone number on the exact same phone I’ve had for 6 years (hey, it still works don’t hate) on the exact same plan with the exact same carrier that had SMS authentication on it for years… is an invalid number. Primo system there, Blizz.

The cost of the phone is one thing, the annoying monthly service costs are another.

A land line is much less expensive, much less annoying too. I’d love to be able to go back to that.

You don’t need a mobile phone. Just download an Android emulator on PC and install the app on that.

I have a very simple cell phone that I am able to use. I have severe C.P with limited use of my hands. My cell is a LG Cosmos with buttons and slider qwerty keyboard. It doesn’t do apps. I can’t do touch screen. So I guess I am out luck.

Especially considering phones are pretty lucrative attack vector.

Using $50 Blu phone that shortly after I bought it was revealed that they somehow forgot to turn off all the Chinese RAT tools in the firmware before selling to American markets.

It probably has more to do about “Don’t you have phones” and collecting market research data about what games people play than security.

“gnomes only”

Edit: drat, as I kept reading I saw I was beaten.

I have panic disorder with agoraphobia. I never leave the house alone.

I still have a cell phone. Because there are emergencies that may happen that knock out a home phone line, but so long as the cell tower doesn’t get knocked over, cell phones worked.

We’ve had two earthquakes here in the past 2 decades that knocked out home phones but left cell phones intact.

Ask a family member or friend if they have an old phone/tablet they don’t need. You don’t need a mobile phone plan, you just need wifi.

As for the people saying you need to attach a phone number: My account has no phone number associated with it. It’s never had one. I have the authenticator set up just fine.

My phone charger broke and I got locked out of my WoW account for over a few hours after restarting my computer and launching battle.net with no internet connection. Its like my other means of verification just don’t matter anymore.

Being locked out of my account for hours because my phone died and can’t be charged is just cold.

Forcing people to get a phone to list your group for a dungeon seems stupid.

People will still TROLL the system. HACKERS will still HACK your account even with a Authenticator.

This solves nothing.
